Abstract

The invention relates to a photoelectrochemical cellfor light-driven production of hydrogen and oxygen, especially from water or another electrolyte based on aqueous solution, having a photoelectric layer structureand an electrochemical layer structurein a layer construction, where—the photoelectric layer structurefor absorption of lightuninfluenced by the electrolyteforms a front sideof the layer structure, and—the electrochemical layer structure, for accommodation of the electrolyte, forms a reverse sideof the layer construction, and—a conductive and corrosion-inhibiting coupling layerforms electrical contact between the photoelectric layer structureand the electrochemical layer structurein the layer construction, where—the electrochemical layer structurehas an electrode structure of a front electrodeand an electrode structure of a rear electrode, between which is arranged an ion exchange layersuch that an integrated layer constructionis formed with the ion exchange layerin contact with the electrode structure of the front electrodeformed for conversion of the electrolyteand/or with the electrode structure of the rear electrode
