Abstract
Methods are provided to control the harvesting of desired metabolic byproducts from hypersaline photosynthetic algae. Methods are presented to control secretion of said metabolic products in monocultures and co-cultures after accumulation of byproducts. The metabolic byproduct secretion is controlled by controlling caspase activity.
