An apparatus for relieving pain in a region of the body of a user by contacting electrodes to a surface of the body of the user at the region and providing a series of electrical impulses to the region, the apparatus including: (a) at least two electrodes adapted to contact a surface of a body of the user; (b) a control unit; and (c) a signal generator, associated with the control unit and responsive thereto, the signal generator and the control unit adapted to operative connect to a power supply, the signal generator adapted, in an operative mode, to provide a series of electrical impulses to the surface of the body, via the electrodes, the series including a plurality of cycles, each of the cycles having a positive voltage pulse and a negative voltage pulse, wherein a frequency of the plurality of cycles is optionally within a range of 60-150 cycles per second, wherein a time-averaged voltage amplitude (Va) of the positive voltage pulse, over an entire duration (Tp) thereof, is 20-90 Volts, and wherein a ramp-up section of the positive voltage pulse fulfills at least one of the following structural conditions: (1) the positive voltage pulse attains at least 80% of the time-averaged voltage amplitude, within a time (T80) of 70-150 nanoseconds; (2) the positive voltage pulse increases by at least 20 Volts, within 70 nanoseconds.

Electrical device for providing pain relief

A non-invasive method and device for promoting a localized change in a flow of blood through a blood vessel in a limb segment of a body by a series of electrically stimulated contractions of muscle tissue in the limb segment, the method including the steps of: (a) providing a device including: (i) first, second and third electrodes, each adapted to operatively contact the limb segment; (ii) a signal generator, operatively connected to the electrodes, adapted to produce a series of electrical impulses to the limb segment via the electrodes, and (iii) a control unit adapted to control the signal generator to produce the series of electrical impulses; (b) positioning the electrodes on the limb segment, wherein the first electrode is positioned on a lower end of the lower leg, the second electrode is positioned on the lower leg, and the third electrode is positioned on an upper end of the lower leg, whereby the first and third electrodes are disposed on opposite ends of the lower leg, and the second electrode and one of the first and third electrodes are disposed on a same end of the lower leg; (c) effecting a sequence of muscular contractions of the lower leg, by operations including: (i) applying a first electrical impulse between the electrodes on the same end of the lower leg to induce a first muscular contraction of a first portion of the tissue; and (ii) applying at least a second electrical impulse between the first and third electrodes to induce a longitudinal muscular contraction of a second portion of the muscular tissue; and (d) repeating operations (i) and (ii), to repeatedly induce the contractions, to effect the increased flow of blood.

Method and device for enhanced blood flow

An apparatus for relieving pain in a region of the body of a user by contacting electrodes to a surface of the body of the user at the region and providing a series of electrical impulses to the region, the apparatus including: (a) at least two electrodes adapted to contact a surface of a body of the user; (b) a control unit; and (c) a signal generator, associated with the control unit and responsive thereto, the signal generator and the control unit adapted to operative connect to a power supply, the signal generator adapted, in an operative mode, to provide a series of electrical impulses to the surface of the body, via the electrodes, the series including a plurality of cycles, each of the cycles having a positive voltage pulse and a negative voltage pulse, wherein a frequency of the plurality of cycles is optionally within a range of 60-150 cycles per second, wherein a time-averaged voltage amplitude (Vap) of the positive voltage pulse, over an entire duration (Tppositive) thereof, is 20-90 Volts, and wherein a ramp-up section of the positive voltage pulse fulfills at least one of the following structural conditions: (1) the positive voltage pulse attains at least 80% of the time-averaged voltage amplitude, within a time (T80) of 70-150 nanoseconds; (2) the positive voltage pulse increases by at least 20 Volts, within 70 nanoseconds.

A medical diagnostic device and method, the device including: (a) an alternating current source, adapted to produce an alternating current; (b) an electrode arrangement having at least first and second electrodes, separated by an electrically insulating region, the arrangement having an at least semi-rigid region that fixes the electrodes in a spaced-apart manner, the arrangement adapted to contact the soft tissue on the inner surface of the eyelid; and (c) a processor, associated with the electrode arrangement, said electrodes electrically connected to the alternating current source; wherein, when the electrode arrangement is provided with the alternating current, and is disposed against the soft tissue, the soft tissue electrically bridges between the electrodes to form an electrical circuit, wherein an electrical signal is produced by the alternating current electrically passing between the electrodes via the soft tissue; wherein the processor is adapted to receive in-vivo based electrical information originating from the electrical signal, via the circuit, and to produce an output relating to, or derived from, the moisture parameter, based on the in-vivo electrical information; and wherein the processor is designed and configured to compute the moisture parameter in the soft tissue, at least partially based on the in-vivo electrical information, and based on an empirical correlation between the in-vivo electrical information and the moisture parameter.

Device for in-vivo determination of eye moisture

A non-invasive method comprising positioning a first electrode on a lower end of a lower leg, a second electrode on the lower leg, and a third electrode on an upper end of the lower leg, whereby the first and third electrodes are disposed on opposite ends of the lower leg, and the second electrode and one of the first and third electrodes are disposed on a same end of the lower leg; effecting a sequence of muscular contractions of the lower leg by (i) applying a first electrical impulse between the electrodes on the same end of the lower leg to induce a first muscular contraction and (ii) applying at least a second electrical impulse between the first and third electrodes to induce a longitudinal muscular contraction; and repeating operations (i) and (ii), to repeatedly induce the contractions, to effect the increased flow of blood.

A treatment method and device for promoting a localized increase in the flow of blood through a blood vessel in an area of the body, the method including the steps of: (a) providing a system including: (i) at least a first electrode operatively contacting a first portion of body tissue; (ii) at least a second electrode operatively contacting a second portion of body tissue; and (iii) a signal generator, operatively connected to the first electrode and the second electrode, for providing a plurality of electrical impulses to the electrodes; (b) applying the electrical impulses so as to subject the muscular tissue to at least one voltage differential, thereby inducing repeated, contracting, directional movement of muscular tissue associated within the blood vessel, so as to produce a localized increase in the flow of blood through the blood vessel.

Method and device for improving blood flow by a series of electrically-induced muscular contractions

A non-invasive method and device for promoting a localized change in a flow of blood through a limb segment by a series of electrically stimulated contractions of muscle tissue, the method including: (a) providing a device including: (i) at least a first electrode, a second electrode, and a third electrode, each of the electrodes for operatively contacting the limb segment of the body; (ii) a signal generator, operatively connected to each electrode, for producing a series of electrical impulses to the limb segment via the electrodes, and (iii) a control unit, associated with the signal generator, for controlling the signal generator so as to produce the series of electrical stimulation impulses; (b) positioning the plurality of electrodes on the limb segment; (c) applying electrical impulses to induce a substantially radial contraction of a first portion of the muscular tissue in the limb segment; (d) applying electrical impulses to induce a substantially longitudinal contraction of a second portion of the muscular tissue in the limb segment, such that the muscular tissue acts upon the blood vessel to produce the localized change in the flow of blood.

A device for, and method of restoring kidney function, the method including the steps of: (a) providing a device including: (i) a conducting coil, and (ii) a signal generator, operatively connected to a power supply, for providing a plurality of electrical impulses to the coil; (b) disposing the conducting coil proximate to a kidney of a patient, and (c) delivering the electrical impulses conducting to the conducting coil, so as to produce an electromagnetic field, the electromagnetic field acting so as to stimulate the kidney and at least partially restore kidney function.

Method and device for restoring kidney function using electromagnetic stimulation

A method for the treatment of a sore by applying a series of voltage wave forms, including the steps of: (a) situating a pair of spaced-apart electrodes in contact with healthy tissue on opposite sides of a sore having substantially zero electrical activity, and (b) externally inducing a percutaneous flow of electrical current between the electrodes by establishing the series of voltage wave forms across the electrodes, wherein the series of voltage wave forms includes wave forms designed to substantially mimic characteristic natural voltage wave form emissions of at least one electrically activity sore. The sore can subsequently be monitored for independent electrical activity, and if independent electrical activity is not sustained, step (b) is reapplied. The treatment method is particularly appropriate for bedsores.

Method for the treatment of bedsores using electrical impulses

A method of electrically stimulating muscles in a cast-bearing limb so as to inhibit muscle atrophy, the method including the steps of: (a) providing a system including: (i) at least two electrodes; (ii) a signal generator operatively connected to the electrodes, and (iii) a power source providing power to the signal generator; (b situating the electrodes in contact with tissue on the cast-bearing limb; (c) stimulating the muscles by externally inducing a percutaneous flow of electrical current between the electrodes through the tissue by establishing a plurality of external bipolar voltage waves across the electrodes, the plurality of bipolar voltage waves defining a treatment period, and (d) applying, over a 24-hour period, at least 12 distinct treatment periods.

Muscle stimulation in a cast immobilized limo

A non-invasive method for the treatment of sores having substantially zero electrical activity, including the steps of: (a) situating a pair of spaced-apart electrodes in contact with healthy tissue on opposite sides of an area containing cells to be treated, and (b) externally inducing a percutaneous flow of electrical current between said electrodes through said area by establishing an external bipolar voltage wave form across said electrodes at a frequency of between 2 Hz and 10 Hz. Preferably, at least one of the positive and negative voltage half cycles contains at least two peaks. The treatment method is particularly appropriate for bedsores.
