A system has: a compressor having a suction port and a discharge port; an ejector having a motive flow inlet, a suction flow inlet, and an outlet; a separator having an inlet, a vapor outlet, and a liquid outlet; a first heat exchanger; an expansion device; and a second heat exchanger. Conduits and valves are positioned to provide alternative operation in: a cooling mode and a heating mode. In the cooling mode, a needle of the ejector is closed. In the heating mode refrigerant passes sequentially from a first section of the second heat exchanger to a second section. In the cooling mode refrigerant passes in parallel through the first section and the second section.

Heat pump with ejector

A system () has: a compressor () having a suction port () and a discharge port (); an ejector () having a motive flow inlet (), a suction flow inlet (), and an outlet (); a separator () having an inlet (), a vapor outlet (), and a liquid outlet (); a first heat exchanger (); an expansion device (); and a second heat exchanger (). Conduits and valves are positioned to provide alternative operation in: a cooling mode; a first heating mode; and a second heating mode. In the cooling mode and second heating mode, a needle () of the ejector is closed.

A dehumidification system for a heat pump, a method of operating a heat pump system, and a method of operating a refrigeration system are provided. The method of operating a heat pump system includes circulating refrigerant in a refrigerant circuit having a compressor (), selectively communicating refrigerant from the compressor to an indoor heat exchanger () during a heating mode or to an outdoor heat exchanger () during a cooling mode or a reheat mode, selectively communicating refrigerant to a reheat heat exchanger during the reheat mode, and regulating a refrigerant volume in the reheat heat exchanger.

An ejector has: a motive flow inlet; a secondary flow inlet; an outlet; a motive nozzle; a diffuser; and a control needle shiftable between a first position and a second position. The ejector comprises: an inlet body bearing the motive flow inlet and the secondary flow inlet; a diffuser body forming the diffuser and bearing the outlet; a motive nozzle insert forming the motive nozzle in a compartment in the inlet body; and a needle guide insert in the motive nozzle insert.

Ejectors and methods of manufacture

A vapor compression system () has: a compressor (); a first heat exchanger (); a second heat exchanger (); an ejector (); separator (); and an expansion device (). A plurality of conduits are positioned to define a first flowpath sequentially through: the compressor; the first heat exchanger; the ejector from a motive flow inlet through () an outlet (); and the separator, and then branching into: a first branch returning to the compressor; and a second branch passing through the expansion device and second heat exchanger to a secondary flow inlet (). The plurality of conduits are positioned to define a bypass flowpath () bypassing the motive flow inlet and rejoining the first flowpath at essentially separator pressure but away from the separator.
