Aqueous solutions of amine functionalized ionic compounds for carbon capture processes

A method for reducing mercaptan concentration in a crude oil is disclosed. The method comprises contacting the crude with a treating solution comprising a hypochlorite solution, whereby the mercaptan sulfur is oxidized and converted to at least one sulfur oxoacid or salt thereof, yielding a treated crude oil having less than 50 ppm mercaptan sulfur and residual organic chloride. The treated crude oil containing residual organic chloride is brought in contact with a caustic solution at a molar ratio of caustic to chloride of 0.1:1 to 50:1, generating an upgraded crude oil with less than 10 ppm organic chloride. In one embodiment, the spent treating solution is recycled to form a regenerated hypochlorite stream for use in the treatment solution.

Method for reducing mercaptans in hydrocarbons

Disclosed herein is a method for improving the total energy demand required to separate carbon dioxide (CO) from an aqueous ionic absorbent solution in a post-combustion carbon capture process. The method involves (a) contacting a flue gas stream containing COwith an aqueous ionic absorbent solution under absorption conditions to absorb at least a portion of the COfrom the flue gas stream and form a CO-aqueous ionic absorbent solution stream, wherein the aqueous ionic absorbent solution comprises one or more diluents and an ionic absorbent containing a cation and an anion comprising an amine moiety; and (b) subjecting at least a portion of the CO-aqueous ionic absorbent solution stream to desorption conditions to form a CO-rich stream and an aqueous ionic absorbent solution stream having a reduced COcontent.

Method for improving total energy demand in a post-combustion carbon capture process with ionic absorbent

A method is disclosed for removing impurities such as nitrogen and/or sulfur compounds from a hydrocarbon feed, in which the feed is contacted with an adsorbent including a nitrogen-containing organic heterocyclic salt deposited on a porous support, e.g., a supported ionic liquid. Additionally, a method for hydrotreating a hydrocarbon feed which includes a hydroprocessing step is disclosed, wherein prior to hydroprocessing, the feed is contacted with an adsorbent including a supported ionic liquid. Additionally, a method for producing a lube oil which includes isomerization dewaxing of a base oil fraction is disclosed, wherein prior to the isomerization dewaxing step, the base oil fraction is contacted with an adsorbent including a supported ionic liquid. In one embodiment, the adsorbent is regenerated to restore its treatment capacity.

Treatment of a hydrocarbon feed

Disclosed are embodiments relating to a process for reducing the total acid number of a hydrocarbon feed by contacting the feed with a metal titanate catalyst having an MTiOstructure wherein M is a metal having a valence of 2+, resulting in a hydrocarbon product having a final total acid number lower than the initial total acid number of the feed. The process is useful for pretreating high acid crudes prior to further processing thus avoiding corrosion of equipment used in refining operations. The process can be integrated into conventional refining operations in order to treat various refinery streams. In one embodiment, a process is provided for refining a low acid crude oil and a high acid crude oil by separately introducing a relatively low acid crude oil feed and a relatively high acid crude oil feed to an atmospheric distillation column, wherein the relatively high acid crude oil feed is contacted with a metal titanate catalyst prior to introduction to the atmospheric distillation column.

A denitrification method is disclosed for removing nitrogen compounds from a hydrocarbon feed in which the feed is contacted with an adsorbent including an organic heterocyclic salt deposited on a porous support. Additionally, a method for hydrotreating a hydrocarbon feed which includes a hydroprocessing step is disclosed, wherein prior to hydroprocessing, the feed is contacted with an adsorbent including an organic heterocyclic salt deposited on a support. Denitrification of a hydrocarbon feed

A process is disclosed using a dispersion of supercritical fluid and oil to upgrade a hydrocarbon feedstock such as a heavy oil into an upgraded hydrocarbon product or synthetic crude with highly desirable properties such as low sulfur content, low metals content, lower density (higher API), lower viscosity, lower residuum content, etc. The process utilizes a capillary mixer to form the dispersion. The process does not require external supply of hydrogen nor does it use externally supplied catalysts.

In some embodiments, the present invention relates to an enrichment process that involves a separation and/or fractionation and/or enrichment of monounsaturated fatty acid/ester molecules from polyunsaturated fatty acid/ester molecules or, correspondingly, monounsaturated molecules from saturated molecules. A process for adsorbing aromatic sulfur compounds, where an adsorbent is contacted with a C-Caromatic and/or aliphatic stream which comprises a solution of (i) at least one benzothiophene compound, (ii) a solvent which comprises at least one C-Caliphatic compound, and (iii) optionally at least one C-Caromatic compound. In this process, the adsorbent is regenerated using an organic regenerant such as, but not limited to, toluene. Also disclosed is another process for adsorbing aromatic sulfur compounds. In this process, an adsorbent is contacted with a mixture comprising a model diesel feed comprising at least one benzothiophene compound. In this process, the adsorbent is regenerated using an organic regenerant such as, but not limited to, toluene.
