Oil-in-water (O/W) and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions and microemulsions containing elastomeric silanes or siloxanes preferably having quaternary ammonium groups are generally made by reacting organic quaternary ammonium compounds having epoxide groups or halohydrin groups, with silanes or siloxanes having amino groups. The reaction is carried out in an aqueous polar phase containing a crosslinking agent and surfactant. The emulsions and microemulsions are especially useful for treating hair, skin, or the underarm.

Silicone based liquid crystal and vesicles are prepared by first reacting (A) an &#x2261;Si&#x2014;H containing polysiloxane, (B) a mono-alkenyl polyether, in the presence of a platinum catalyst until an &#x2261;Si&#x2014;H containing polysiloxane with polyether groups (C) is formed. The &#x2261;Si&#x2014;H containing polysiloxane with polyether groups (C) is then reacted with (D) an unsaturated hydrocarbon such as an &#x3b1;,&#x3c9;-dienes, and (E) water, in the presence of a platinum catalyst until the silicone based liquid crystal or vesicle is formed. The silicone based liquid crystal or vesicle can also be heated until a hard liquid crystal gel or vesicle paste are formed.

A thermally conductive grease includes (A) a polyorganosiloxane having a viscosity less than 50 cSt (mm/s) at 25&#xb0; C. and (B) a thermally conductive filler. The thermally conductive grease is useful as a thermal interface material for electronic devices.

Siloxane-based polyamide elastomers can be prepared by heating a reaction mixture containing an olefinic acid and an organic amine to form an organic amide, and reacting the organic amide with a hydride functional polyorganosiloxane in the presence of a hydrosilylation catalyst to form the siloxane-based polyamide elastomer. The hydride functional polyorganosiloxane contains at least one pendant hydrogen. The elastomers are useful additives in personal care products and can be applied to the hair, the skin, or the underarm. They can also be used to modify thermoplastic nylons, and for treating woven and non-woven textiles, such as air bags, carpeting, and apparel.

This invention related to silicone elastomer compositions in the form of gels and/or organized structures. The silicone elastomer compositions are produced by reacting a siloxane having a first reactive group with a crosslinker having a second reactive group in a diluent. One reactive group is selected from epoxy-functional groups or chlorohydrin functional groups while the other reactive group is a functional group that reacts with epoxy-functional groups or chlorohydrin functional groups (i.e. amine, hydroxyl). The silicone elastomer compositions of the instant invention are particularly useful in personal care products, textiles, auto care products, and laundry products and for the delivery of active ingredients.

Spontaneously formed highly stable clear water-in-oil microemulsions containing only small amounts of water can be prepared by combining and simply hand shaking (i) 0.1 to 9 percent by weight of water; (ii) greater than 80 percent by weight of a volatile cyclic alkyl siloxane or volatile linear alkyl siloxane; and (iii) 3 to 10 percent by weight of certain silicone polyether surfactants. The microemulsions are useful in personal care applications.
