A wideband amplifier includes a first diplexer receiving broadband input signals and divides them by frequency into a low band input signal and a high band input signal. The amplifier has separate high band and low band amplifiers coupled to amplify the low and high band input signals, and a second diplexer coupled to combine outputs of the low and high band amplifiers to form a wideband output. A method of amplification of an input signal includes separating the input signal into high and low band signals, separately amplifying the high and low band signals, and combining amplified high and low band signals into an output signal.

Broadband diplexed or multiplexed power amplifier

A high performance kilowatt-scale large air-gap multi-modular capacitive wireless power transfer (WPT) system is provided for electric vehicle (EV) charging. In one particular implementation, the multi-modular system achieves high power transfer while maintaining fringing electric fields within prescribed safety limits. The fringing fields are reduced using near-field phased-array field-focusing techniques, wherein the adjacent modules of the multi-modular system are out-phased with respect to one another. The inter-module interactions in this multi-modular system can be modeled, and an approach to eliminate these interactions in a practical EV charging environment is provided. To illustrate one example implementation, a prototype 1.2-kW 6.78-MHz 12-cm air-gap multi-modular capacitive WPT system comprising two 600-W modules is provided. This prototype system achieves 21.2 kW/mpower transfer density and a peak efficiency of 89.8%. This multi-modular system also achieves a fringing field reduction of 50% compared to its individual modules.

Multi-modular capacitive wireless power transfer circuit and related techniques

A multi-level supply modulator for RF power amplifiers requires only a single independent voltage supply along with one or more flying capacitors to achieve multiple output levels. The flying capacitor is used to store the intermediate voltage level between the DC supply level and ground. A switch network is connected between the DC voltage supply and the power amplifier and is configured to provide power at variable, discrete DC voltages, for example the DC voltage supply level, ground, and a level halfway between the DC voltage supply level and ground. The flying capacitor is connected to switches in the switch network, and a sensing circuit detects the voltage across the flying capacitor and generates a feedback signal. Control circuitry controls the switch network (and thus the power supplied to the amplifier) based on the feedback signal.

Single-supply multi-level envelope tracker for RF power amplifier efficiency enhancement

A microwave sensor includes a cloud of particles, e.g., Rubidium 87 atoms. A probe laser beam transitions ground-state particles in its path to an excited state. A set of one or more coupling laser beams causes excited particles to transition to a first Rydberg state so that particles in the intersection of the laser beams are in a dark superposition which is transparent to the probe laser beam so that a frequency spectrum of the probe laser beam shows a transmission peak at the laser frequency. A microwave lens focuses a microwave vector (e.g., a microwave signal) within the intersection, causing particles in the first Rydberg state to transition to a second Rydberg state, splitting the transmission peak into a pair of peaks. The intensity of the microwave vector can be calculated based on the frequency difference between the pair of peaks. The direction of the microwave vector can be determined from the location of the laser-beam intersection.

Biasing circuitry for RF and microwave integrated circuits keeps the quiescent current of a power amplifier integrated circuit constant when operated with a time-varying DC supply voltage. A dynamic gate bias circuit includes an on-chip sense transistor and control circuitry to keep current of the sense transistor substantially constant by varying sense transistor bias voltage to compensate for variation in the time-varying supply voltage signal. The varying bias voltage is then applied to the amplifying transistors of the power amplifier, resulting in their quiescent current being substantially independent of the time-varying supply voltage.

Gain stabilization for supply modulated RF and microwave integrated circuits

Systems and methods are described for microwave-frequency, passive sensing of internal body temperature. Some implementations include one or more wearable sensors that wirelessly transmit temperature data continuously to a remote receiver. The sensor can include a probe designed to be placed on a skin site of an individual to receive near-field radiation at the skin site, and a radiometer to detect a total power of the received near-field radiation. The remote receiver includes a signal processing system that can convert the detected total power to an internal tissue temperature measurement by applying the detected power to a tissue stack model. The tissue stack model can characterize the skin site according to a set of weighting functions, each weighting function corresponding at least to electromagnetic characteristics of an associated tissue layer of the tissue stack model.

Microwave thermometer for internal body temperature retrieval

A capacitive wireless power transfer (WPT) architecture that provides for dynamic (i.e., in motion) and/or stationary power transfer is provided. In various implementations, for example, the capacitive WPT architecture can achieve high power transfer levels at high efficiencies while maintaining fringing field strengths within acceptable safety limits. In one implementation, for example, a multi-module capacitive wireless power transfer system provides a capacitive charging system, such as for, but not limited to, charging electric vehicles (EV). In another implementation, a capacitive wireless power transfer module is provided. The module, for example, comprises a plurality of first coupling plates adapted to be coupled to a power source via an inverter; a plurality of second coupling plates adapted to be coupled to a load and to the plurality of first coupling plates for receiving wireless power and a matching network adapted to provide reactive compensation and gain.

An ultra-wideband (UWB) radar transmitter apparatus comprises a pulse generator configured to produce from a sinusoidal input signal a pulsed output signal having a series of baseband pulses with a first pulse repetition frequency (PRF). The pulse generator includes a plurality of components that each have a nonlinear electrical reactance. A signal converter is coupled to the pulse generator and configured to convert the pulsed output signal into a pulsed radar transmit signal having a series of radar transmit pulses with a second PRF that is less than the first PRF.

Ultra-wideband short-pulse radar with range accuracy for short range detection

Exemplary systems and methods are provided for collecting/harvesting direct current (DC) power received from a power source(s). The system comprises a controlled impedance power controller comprises a power converter configured to present a positive equivalent resistive load to the at least one power source over a range of input power levels. Exemplary systems and methods are provided for collecting radio frequency (RF) power. An exemplary system comprises at least two rectenna elements, a power controller, and a DC combining circuit. The DC combining circuit is associated with the at least two rectenna elements and the DC combining circuit is configured to dynamically combine the at least two rectenna elements in one of a plurality of series/parallel configurations. The power controller is configured to control the DC combining circuit to achieve a desired overall power output from the at least two rectenna elements.

Systems and methods for receiving and managing power in wireless devices

Described is a generally planar antenna having a tapered array of radiating/receiving elements that are transversely mounted in capacitive coupling to an elongated transmission line that underlies the array. The shorter dipole elements resonate at high frequencies, the longer dipole elements resonate at lower frequencies, and the intermediate length dipole elements resonate at intermediate frequencies. The dipole elements are mounted on one surface of a planar dielectric substrate to form a planar, generally triangular shaped pattern having relatively narrow spacing between individual dipole elements (for example, one-twentieth of the wavelength of the intermediate frequencies), and having a relatively large spacing to width ratio. Coupling between the dipole elements causes then to operate as if they were a single broadband dipole element.
