A node () receives data packets. For each of the received data packets, the node () extracts a first value from the data packet. The first value indicates a delay requirement of the data packet. For each of the received data packets, the node () also extracts a second value from the data packet. The second value indicates a level of importance assigned to the data packet. Depending on the first values and the second values, the node () controls forwarding of the received data packets.

Delay requirement aware packet forwarding control

A method and a transmitting node for redirecting of a flow of data packets to a path of alternative paths, and a method and a receiving node for enabling redirection of a flow of data packets to a path of alternative paths, where data packets are marked with a value indicating the importance of the data packets. The method for directing directs one or more flows of data packets for the alternative paths, wherein data packets marked with a higher value are prioritized over data packets marked with a lower value. Based on feedback information, the transmitting node redirects a flow of data packets to a second path of the alternative paths, if the metric of congestion indicates a higher congestion on the first path than on the second path.

Communication nodes, methods therein, computer programs and a computer-readable storage medium

A method, femto Base Station, and network service node for connecting a User Equipment UE, to local devices in a local network. The femtoBS includes a femtoBS part and a Packet Data Network Gateway, PDN-GW, part comprising a subset of PDN-GW functions. The UE sends a PDN connection request that includes a special Access Point Name, APN, which indicates the request ts for local IP access. The network service node, such as a Mobility Management Entity, MME1 includes a gateway selection mechanism that, based on the special APN1 selects the PDN GW part of the femtoBS device to serve the connection. A route optimization function in the femtoBS shortcuts the traffic between the femtoBS part and the PDN GW part, providing direct access to the local network. The UE may access the Internet through a residential gateway in the local network and a fixed access connection.

Maintaining current cell location information in a cellular access network

One aspect provides a method of enabling a user entity, UE (), to access a local Packet Data Network, PDN, when the UE () accesses an Evolved Packet Core, EPC, network via a Broadband Forum, BBF-defined access network over the S2a interface. The method includes receiving a request from the UE in the EPC (), the request including one or more Access Point Names, APNs. A decision () is made to offload at least one of the APNs by designating it as a local APN. Communications are established between the UE and a PDN identified by use of the designated local APN in a session set-up request from the UE. The communications are established directly (), via the BBF-defined access network, and so as to avoid passing data packets via the EPC. Other aspects include an EPC network entity, a Broadband Network Gateway, BNG (), in a BBF-defined access network (), and User equipment () configured in accordance with the method.

Local access point name for use in accessing packet data networks

A wireless communication device for use in a cellular network. The device comprises a radio interface for enabling communication between the device and a base station of the cellular network over a radio link, and a transfer entity for exchanging user data packets with a core network node of said cellular network over a signalling connection within a Non Access Stratum, via said radio link. The device further comprises a data transmission verification entity for using a verifiable acknowledgement, received from said core network node over a signalling connection within a Non Access Stratum, to confirm delivery of a user data packet sent to the core network node over a signalling connection, the data transmission verification entity being configured to selectively include with a user data packet sent to said core network node across a signalling connection, a request to return to the device a verifiable acknowledgement for the sent user data packet.

Security mechanism for mobile users

There is described a method and apparatus for sending data through one or more packet data networks. A stripped-down packet is sent from a packet sending node towards a cache node, the stripped down packet including in its payload a pointer to a payload data segment stored in a file at the cache node. When the stripped-down packet is received at the cache node, the pointer is used to identify the payload data segment from data stored at the cache node. The payload data segment is inserted into the stripped-down packet in place of the pointer so as to generate a full size packet, which is sent from the cache node towards a client.

Network cache architecture

A method in a communication node for handling a packet to a destination node in a communications network, and associated nodes. The communication node associates the packet with a remaining value, with the remaining value being a packet value reduced by a threshold value of an outgoing link from the communication node towards the destination node. The threshold value corresponds to a congestion level of the outgoing link. The communication node further handles the packet based on the remaining value, the handling including determining whether to drop or to transmit the packet along the outgoing link based on the remaining value.

A technique for registering a mobile terminal with an anchor node and for handling data packets after registration is provided. A method implementation of this technique comprises the steps of providing support for a plurality of mobility management protocols, wherein the mobility management protocols are deployed in parallel within a protocol stack of an anchor node, receiving, from a mobile terminal, a registration message, and selectively handling the registration message in accordance with the mobility management protocol associated with the registration message.

This disclosure relates a method within a network node and a corresponding network node for determining input information for creation of a data traffic clustering model. The method comprises obtaining data descriptors of data flows, wherein the data descriptors describe data of the data flows, and obtaining flow information of the data flows. In addition, the method comprises determining clustering model input information based on the obtained data descriptors and the obtained flow information. One exemplary advantage of the present disclosure is that it allows traffic clustering based solely on packet header information, making the present disclosure appropriate for handling encrypted traffic.

Method and apparatus for use in a communications network

One aspect pertains to a method of enabling an Evolved Packet Core (EPC) network to implement predetermined Quality of Service (QoS) resource policies applied to subscriber/service groups operating via the network. The method comprises receiving a request for QoS resources to be provided to a bearer for traffic of a user of a subscriber/service group from which the request originated. A Resource Class (RC) parameter is assigned to the request. The RC parameter identifies a resource partition and the originating subscriber/service group, A Gx-Request that includes the RC parameter is forwarded to the EPC network to invoke application of the requested QoS resources so as to establish a bearer in accordance with the predetermined policies identifiable from the RC. Other aspects pertain to EPC network nodes configured accordingly.

Network sharing in an evolved packet core network

User plane data is sent between a user device and a network entity within a packet core network via a radio access network. The user device is authenticated to the network entity, and a Security Association between the user device and the network entity is established. The user device is maintained in a connectionless state such that no Security Association is established between the user device and the radio access network, and no data bearer is set up between the user device and said packet core network. With the user device in the connectionless state, uplink and downlink user plane data is sent between the user device and the network entity by including the data within signalling messages on a Non Access Stratum plane.
