A color electrophoretic display with improved black optical state includes an electrophoretic medium having five types of charged electrophoretic pigment particles in a non-polar fluid: a first particle having a first optical property and first charge polarity; a second particle having a second optical property and second opposite charge polarity with a first charge magnitude; a third particle having a third optical property and second charge polarity with a second charge magnitude smaller than the first charge; a fourth particle having a fourth optical property and second charge polarity with a third charge magnitude smaller than the second charge; and a fifth particle having a fifth optical property and second charge polarity with a fourth charge magnitude greater than the first charge. The first and fifth particles are white and black, respectively, and the second, third, and fourth particles are each a different one of cyan, magenta, and yellow.

Five-particle electrophoretic medium with improved black optical state

Improved formulations of electrophoretic media that can be incorporated into displays, front plane laminates, inverted front plane laminates, or color changing films. The formulations include a non-polar fluid, a plurality of first charged particles, and charge control agents (CCA) including a quaternary amine and an unsaturated polymeric tail comprising monomers of at least 10 carbon atoms in length. The formulations show improved switching speeds, as well as a larger dynamic range at low temperatures (i.e., below about 0° C.), where compared to state-of-the-art electrophoretic media.

Electrophoretic media including charge control agents comprising quartenary amines and unsaturated polymeric tails

An electrophoretic particle including a pigment particle having an intermediate residue covalently bonded to the surface of the pigment particle and a polymer bonded to the intermediate residue. The polymer may be derived from one or more types of monomers and at least one of the monomers is a substituted or unsubstituted styrene monomer including halogenated styrenic monomers. The electrophoretic particle may be used in an electrophoretic medium including a dispersion of the particles in a suspending fluid. The electrophoretic medium may be incorporated into an electro-optic display.

Electrophoretic particles, media, and displays and processes for the production thereof

An electrophoretic medium includes a fluid, a plurality of light scattering charged particles having a first polarity, and a first, second, and third set of particles, each set having a color different from each other set. The first and second particles may have a second polarity opposite to the first polarity, and the mobility of the third set of particles is less than half of the mobility of the light scattering particles, the first set of charged particles, and the second set of charged particles.

Colored electrophoretic displays

Electro-optic assemblies and related materials (e.g., adhesive) for use therein are generally provided. The electro-optic assembly comprises a hybrid adhesive layer comprising two or more adhesive materials including a polyurethane adhesive material and a polyacrylate adhesive material. The polyurethane adhesive material includes an end-capping cyclic carbonate. In some embodiments, the adhesive layer is formed by curing the two adhesive materials under two different sets of conditions, comprising two or more curing steps.

Quinacridone pigments that are surface-functionalized with glycidyl methacrylate, maleic anhydride, or 4-methacryloxyethyl trimellitic anhydride to create a functionalized pigment. The functional groups are then activated to bond hydrophobic polymers, thereby coating the pigment with the hydrophobic polymers. The quinacridone pigments can be used for a variety of applications. They are well-suited for use in electro-optic materials, such as electrophoretic media for use in electrophoretic displays.

Method of making functionalized quinacridone pigments

Electro-optic assemblies and related materials (e.g., adhesive) tier use therein are generally provided. The adhesive layer may comprise an end-capped polyurethane. Some adhesive layers comprise two or more reactive functional groups (e.g., reactive functional groups configured to react with one or more curing species such that, for example, at least one of the two or more functional groups forms a crosslink). The adhesive may also comprise a chain-extending reagent that includes one or more reactive functional groups. In some embodiments, the adhesive is cured by reacting one or more reactive functional groups with one or more curing species. Curing the adhesive may comprise two or more curing steps. In some embodiments the adhesive layer may comprise one or more cross-linkers.

Electro-optic assemblies and related materials (e.g., adhesive) for use therein are generally provided. The adhesive layer may comprise an end-capped polyurethane. Some adhesive layers comprise two or more reactive functional groups (e.g., reactive functional groups configured to react with one or more curing species such that, for example, at least one of the two or more functional groups forms a crosslink). The adhesive may also comprise a chain-extending reagent that includes one or more reactive functional groups. In some embodiments, the adhesive is cured by reacting one or more reactive functional groups with one or more curing species. Curing the adhesive may comprise two or more curing steps. In some embodiments the adhesive layer may comprise one or more cross-linkers.

The invention is a composition comprising a) one or more organotitanates having four ligands wherein the ligands are hydrocarbyl, optionally containing one or more functional groups having one or more heteroatoms selected from the group comprising oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur wherein two or more of the ligands may form a cyclic structure; b) one or more mercaptosilanes; c) one or more polyaminosilanes; d) one or more secondary aminosilanes; and e) a solvent which dissolves the components of the composition. The composition also includes an organotin compound f). This composition is referred to as a clear primer hereinafter. In another embodiment the invention is a system for bonding glass to a substrate which comprises a clear primer according to the invention; and an adhesive comprising an isocyanate functional prepolymer and a catalyst for the cure of the isocyanate functional prepolymer.
