Messaging between a companion device and an accessory device is controlled such that different modes of communication may be utilized. The different modes can implement different messaging strategies, each of which is intended for efficient power management, in view of the limited electrical power that is typically available at the accessory device. A received request message for sending from the companion device to the accessory device is sent if predetermined conditions apply, and similarly for messages from the accessory device to the companion device.

Network messaging for paired devices

One embodiment provides for a wearable electronic device comprising a display device, a memory device, and one or more processors to execute instructions stored in the memory device. The instructions cause the one or more processors to receive an interaction to transition an application to a front-most state on the wearable electronic device, receive a request to initiate an activity via the application in the front-most state, detect that the wearable electronic device has transitioned to a low power mode, and enable enhanced functionality for the application in the front-most state during the low power mode while the application is in the front-most stat. Enabling enhanced functionality for the application in the front-most state includes, for example, increasing an execution priority of the application while the application is in the front most state.

Application session and enhancement for a wearable electronic device

This disclosure relates to dynamic baseband management for a wireless device. The wireless device may be an accessory device. The accessory device may determine whether it has a short-range wireless communication link with a companion device. The accessory device may determine one or more proximity metrics relating to the companion device. The accessory device may further determine one or more metrics associated with user settings, user activity and/or application activity at the wireless device. The wireless device may select a (e.g., full, limited, or off) baseband operating mode based on any or all of these considerations.

Dynamic baseband management

Power optimization modes for communication between a device and a server is disclosed. The device can dynamically change between communication modes based on an application or quality of service, battery life, an amount of noise associated with the communications link, a frequency of messages, and a type of message received in a given time period. In some examples, the device can determine if the number of pull messages is greater than the number of push messages. The device can select a push mode where a pull message can accompany a push message. In some examples, the device can determine that the number of push messages is greater than the number of pull messages, and the device can select a low-power associated sleep mode.

Power optimization modes for communication between device and server

A wearable electronic device includes an application processor to execute applications on the device. A user interface for the application can be displayed on a display of the wearable device. Some applications executed on the wearable device are associated with an activity session, such as, for example, a turn-by-turn navigation session, an exercise session, a media playback session. For the duration of this session, such applications can be flagged for persistent display on the wearable device and will be displayed upon activation of the wearable device in place of the default application.

Dynamic Baseband Management

Handling conflicts between radio access technologies (RATs) in a device configured to operate according to multiple RATs. The device may be operated in a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode according to each of a first RAT and a second RAT using a shared radio. It may be determined that a conflicting wakeup time is scheduled according to DRX cycles of the first and second RATs. The radio may be operated according to the first RAT at the conflicting wakeup time. The second RAT may not use the radio at the conflicting wakeup time. A next wakeup time for the second RAT may be determined from multiple possible next wakeup times. The radio may be operated according to the second RAT at the determined next wakeup time.

Conflict handling in a device configured to operate according to multiple cellular communication protocols

This is directed to methods and apparatus for shielding a circuitry region of an electronic device from interference (e.g., EMI). A conductive dam may be formed about a periphery of the circuitry region. A non-conductive or electrically insulating fill may then be applied to the circuitry region within the dam. Next, a conductive cover may be applied above the fill. The cover may be electrically coupled to the dam. The dam may include two or more layers of conductive material stacked on top of one another. In some embodiments, the conductive cover may be pad printed or screen printed above the fill. In other embodiments, the conductive cover may be a conductive tablet that is melted above the fill.
