An example embodiment includes optoelectronic module. The optoelectronic module may include a lens assembly, a module board, heat-generating components, and a thermally conductive plate. The lens assembly may be secured to the module board. The module board may include a printed circuit board (PCB). The heat-generating components may be mounted to the PCB. The thermally conductive plate may be secured to a surface of the module board. The thermally conductive plate may define an opening that receives at least a portion of the lens assembly. The thermally conductive plate may be configured to absorb at least a portion of thermal energy generated during operation of the heat-generating components and to transfer the thermal energy away from the heat-generating components.

Thermal management structures for optoelectronic modules

According to an aspect of an embodiment, a method may include receiving a digital data signal at an optical receiver. The method may further include measuring an eye quality of the received digital data signal. In addition, the method may include adjusting a decision threshold of the optical receiver based on the measured eye quality.

Decision threshold adjustment

A temperature control system is provided for efficiently controlling the temperature of an optical transmitter such as a laser diode. The temperature control system of the present invention reduces power consumption and achieves a higher efficiency by employing a voltage controller and a high-efficiency DC-DC step-down converter between the TEC controller, which drives the thermoelectric cooler, and the microcontroller, which governs the optical transmitter operation. The voltage controller converts an analog voltage command signal into a current-based command signal, which is then sent to the DC-DC step-down converter. The DC-DC converter produces a stepped-down voltage which it supplies to the TEC controller. The TEC controller receives the stepped-down voltage input from the DC-DC converter and outputs a corresponding current signal to the thermoelectric cooler. Because the current signal output by the TEC controller is proportional to the voltage signal it receives from the DC-DC converter, the current signal is reduced in magnitude. Upon receiving the current drive pulses, the thermoelectric cooler operates to stabilize the temperature of the laser diode.
