An apparatus, method, and system for determining the propagation delay for a downhole wire and/or for monitoring the integrity of a downhole wire. The apparatus includes a first tool component and a second tool component spaced apart from the first tool component and communicatively coupled by a wire. The tool components include impedance altering devices configured to alter, for a predetermined period of time, either the source impedance at a first termination point of the wire and/or the load impedance at a second termination point of the wire sufficient to generate a characteristic signal reflection upon the transmission of a signal along a length of the wire between the first tool component and the second tool component.

Downhole wire integrity and propagation delay determination by signal reflection

A method for calibrating a downhole tool may comprise disposing a downhole tool in a borehole, transmitting a signal from a master module disposed on the first device to a module disposed on the second device, transmitting a return signal from the module to the master module, receiving the return signal with the master module, measuring a tone enabled delay for the signal to travel from the master module to the module, and determining a time delay of a return signal to travel from the module to the master module. A well measurement system may comprise a downhole tool. The downhole tool may further comprise a first device and a master module disposed on the first device, wherein the master module may comprise a master transmitter and a master receiver. In examples, the downhole tool may further comprise a second device and a module disposed on the second device.

A nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) tool for use in a subterranean region, the NMR tool comprising a magnet assembly to produce a magnetic field in a volume in the region, an antenna assembly to produce an excitation in the volume, and to receive NMR signals from the volume, and an acquisition system coupled to the antenna assembly and configured to acquire a first NMR signal using a first acquisition window having a first duration, and acquire a second NMR signal using a second acquisition window having a second duration, wherein the second duration is different than the first duration, and a processor coupled to the acquisition system and configured to determine a lateral displacement of the NMR tool as a function of time based on the first and second NMR signals, and apply the lateral displacement to the first NMR signal to generate NMR relaxation data with reduced motion effects.

Reducing motion effects on nuclear magnetic resonance relaxation data

A method for downhole communication between multiple sets of sensors along a single wire bus includes communicating between a first set of sensors through the single wire bus. The first set of sensors include legacy sensors communicating at a legacy communication frequency. The method also includes communicating between a second set of sensors through the single wire bus. The second set of sensors communicates at a second communication frequency an order of magnitude greater than the legacy communication frequency. Further, the method includes communicating between a third set of sensors through the single wire bus. The third set of sensors communicates at a third communication frequency an order of magnitude greater than the legacy communication frequency.

A downhole system includes a first module having a transmitter that transmits at least one sync control signal. The system also includes a second module having a sync module with a direct digital synthesizer (DDS). The sync module analyzes the at least one sync control signal to identify at least one of a sync frequency and a sync phase. The DDS adjusts a local receiver clock based on the identified at least one of a sync frequency and a sync phase.

A bottom hole assembly includes a single wire bus, a legacy sensor coupled to the single wire bus, and at least one high frequency communication sensor coupled to the single wire bus. The high frequency communication sensor injects a high frequency signal alternating between high frequency synchronization pulses and high frequency data signals onto the single wire bus. A first high frequency pass filter coupled between the at least one high frequency communication sensor and the single wire bus is also included. The high frequency pass filter passes the high frequency signal to the single wire bus from the high frequency communication sensor. The bottom hole assembly includes a first high frequency blocking filter coupled between the legacy sensor and the single wire bus. The high frequency blocking filter blocks the high frequency signal from the high frequency communication sensor from disturbing a legacy signal at the legacy sensor.

A method for hazardous liquid detection within a container includes inducing a static magnetic field in the container, inducing a radio frequency magnetic field in the container at a frequency selected to excite nuclear magnetic resonance phenomena in liquids; detecting nuclear magnetic resonance signals from the container and analyzing the signals for presence of liquids above a threshold mass.

Method and apparatus for hazardous liquid detection

A method is disclosed for analyzing body composition. The method includes inducing a static magnetic field in the body. The static magnetic field has a known distribution along a longitudinal axis of the body. A radio frequency magnetic field is induced in the body. The radio frequency and a bandwidth thereof are selected to induce nuclear magnetic resonance phenomena in a selected axial segment along the body. Nuclear magnetic resonance phenomena are from the selected axial segment. Composition is determined from the magnetic resonance signals. The measurement may be repeated in different axial segments by changing the static field amplitude or a frequency of the RF magnetic field. In some embodiments, a gradient field is superimposed over the static field.

Magnetic resonance imaging method and apparatus for body composition analysis

The invention is a method of reducing the effects of non-formation signals in an NMR logging echo signal obtained within a borehole in an earth formation. The method obtains a non-formation signal by the application of at least an excitation pulse, and preferably also at least one refocusing pulse. The obtained signal is used to numerically construct a synthetic ringing signal sequence. The constructed signal can then be subtracted from an NMR echo signal to reduce the effects of ringing.
