A method and apparatus for power control for distributed wireless communication is disclosed including one or more power control loops associated with a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). Each power control loop may include open loop power control or closed loop power control. A multi-phase power control method is also disclosed with each phase representing a different time interval and a WTRU sends transmissions at different power levels to different set of node-Bs or relay stations during different phases to optimize communications.

Uplink power control for distributed wireless communication

Methods and apparatus are described. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) includes a transceiver and a processor operatively coupled to the transceiver. The transceiver and the processor establish a connection with a first wireless network node and a second wireless network node. The transceiver and the processor also receive power configurations and timing advances from the first wireless network node independently of the second wireless network node. The transceiver and the processor also simultaneously receive downlink signals from both the first wireless network node and the second wireless network node. The downlink signals are independently scheduled by a scheduler of the first wireless network node and a scheduler of the second wireless network node.

Method and apparatus for cooperative wireless communications

A method and apparatus of a BS in a wireless communication system is provided. The method and apparatus comprises: storing a set of beam codebooks including a plurality of angular grids each of which is identified as a first type of angular grid or a second type of angular grid; identifying a set of parameters to adjust an antenna beam pattern based on the set of beam codebooks, wherein the set of parameters includes at least one of feedback information received from a UE or a set of KPIs identified by the BS; determining a type of angular grid as the first type of angular grid or the second type of angular grid, wherein the first and second type of angular grids include a first antenna gain and a second antenna gain, respectively; and select, from the set of beam codebooks, a beam codebook corresponding to the antenna beam pattern.

Method and apparatus for antenna parameter configuration for cellular communication systems

Apparatuses and methods for managing electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation. A method includes determining one or more radiation power related parameters, the one or more radiation power related parameters including precoding vectors selected for transmission on a transmission time interval (TTI) basis, a transmit power, and resource block (RB) utilization. The method also includes estimating, based on the one or more radiation power related parameters, a time-averaged radiation power over a predefined time window in azimuth and elevation dimensions. The method also includes determining a direction of a maximum time-averaged radiation power among the estimated time-averaged radiation power; and adjusting one or more transmission parameters based on determining that the maximum time-averaged radiation power in the direction is higher than a threshold.

Apparatus and method for managing the exposure to electric and magnetic fields (EMF)

Techniques for sending an aggregated beacon in a cognitive wireless network are disclosed. A beacon device may segment beacon information and send beacon segments via a plurality of channels simultaneously. A certain information elements of the beacon information may be included in each beacon segment. Each beacon segment may include channel information for other beacon segments that are transmitted simultaneously. Alternatively, a discovery beacon may be transmitted in addition to a regular beacon. The discovery beacon may include information indicating an operating channel on which the regular beacon is transmitted. The discovery beacon may be transmitted using a predetermined channel bandwidth, with a smaller beacon interval than the regular beacon, or in a frequency hopping fashion. The discovery beacon may be sent on a channel selected based on a regulatory class and corresponding channel information. The discovery beacon may be transmitted on a side channel.

Methods and wireless devices are described. A method includes a wireless device transmitting to wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) by being scheduled by the base station or using a pool of radio resources, which is for any of a plurality of wireless devices to use for transmission to WTRUs. On a condition that the wireless device is to be scheduled by the base station, the wireless device receives scheduling information for transmission to a WTRU having a group radio network terminal identifier (RNTI) and transmits to the WTRU in response to the received scheduling information. The scheduling information for transmission to the base station uses a different RNTI. On a condition that the wireless device is to use the pool of radio resources for transmission to a WTRU, the wireless device transmits to the WTRU without being scheduled by the base station using the pool of radio resources.

A system and method for load rebalancing are provided. A node B selects a subset of carriers from a plurality of carriers of the node B according to effective usages for the plurality of carriers, determines a heavily loaded carrier and a lightly loaded carrier from the subset of carriers according to effective usages of the subset of carriers, select a mobile device assigned to the heavily loaded carrier as a candidate for handoff, and performs a handoff of the selected mobile device from the heavily loaded carrier to the lightly loaded carrier.

System and method for load rebalancing

A method and apparatus for operating supplementary cells in licensed exempt (LE) spectrum. An aggregating cell operating in a frequency division duplex (FDD) licensed spectrum is aggregated with a LE supplementary cell operating in a time sharing mode for uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) operations. The LE supplementary cell may be an FDD supplementary cell dynamically configurable between an UL only mode, a DL only mode, and a shared mode, to match requested UL and DL traffic ratios. The LE supplementary cell may be a time division duplex (TDD) supplementary cell. The TDD supplementary cell may be dynamically configurable between multiple TDD configurations. A coexistence capability for coordinating operations between the LE supplementary cell with other systems operating in the same channel is provided. Coexistence gaps are provided to measure primary/secondary user usage and permit other systems operating in the LE supplementary cell channel to access the channel.

Method and apparatus for operating supplementary cells in licensed exempt spectrum

A dynamic spectrum management (DSM) engine may determine the channel quality of one or more channels associated with the DSM engine when packets are not being transmitted over the channels. For example, the DSM engine may trigger a channel quality measurement on a non-primary channel on a condition that a predetermined period of time has lapsed since the last activity associated with the non-primary channel. Channel quality measurement may be triggered via a data sending event on the non-primary channel such as sending a data frame on the non-primary channel. The DSM engine may perform respective quality measurements on multiple channels and store the respective quality values in a database. Time-averaged channel qualities for the channels may be computed based on the stored quality values for computing transmit power distribution of across the channels.

Channel quality measurement and transmit power allocation in a dynamic spectrum management system

Methods and apparatus are described. According to a method, a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) communicates with a base station using a first base station operating frequency and a set of cell configuration parameters. The WTRU receives information indicating a second base station operating frequency to use for communications with the base station at a given time. The WTRU communicates with the base station using the second base station operating frequency and the same set of cell configuration parameters on or after the given time.
