The present disclosure provides a capsulotomy device having a unique insertion sleeve configuration comprising beveling and two notches at the distal end of the insertion sleeve. The unique configuration assures that the motion the capsulotomy loop comprising the heating element goes through during deployment from and retraction into the insertion sleeve is minimized and predictable.

Enhancing performance of a capsulotomy device

Embodiments described herein provide ophthalmic surgical instruments. One embodiment provides an instrument including an infusion sleeve, aspiration tube, and infusion/aspiration tip. The sleeve can include a body defining an infusion channel. The tube can be in the infusion channel and define an aspiration channel. The tip can conform to the distal end of the tube. The tip can seal a gap between the sleeve and tube and can include a flange with a profile (e.g., a tapered portion) corresponding to the profile of the sleeve. The sleeve and tip can be keyed such that the sleeve directs fluid in one direction and the tip draws fluid perpendicularly from that direction. The tip's aspiration channel can extend distally beyond its aspiration port. The tip can extend to a point adjacent to an infusion port of the sleeve. A disposable component (including an aspiration tube and infusion/aspiration tip) for use with instruments is provided.

In various embodiments, an ophthalmic surgical instrument may include an aspiration tube, an irrigation/aspiration tip (formed of a first material such as plastic), and a patch, coupled to the irrigation/aspiration tip, made of a second material (e.g., silicone) having a higher coefficient of friction than the first material. In some embodiments, the patch may be placed on the irrigation/aspiration tip in a position to allow a user of the irrigation/aspiration tip to manipulate an intraocular lens (IOL) through contact between the patch and the IOL. For example, the patch may be positioned on a side of the irrigation/aspiration tip opposite an aspiration port or on a distal end of the irrigation/aspiration tip. In some embodiments, the patch may be formed separately and coupled to the irrigation/aspiration tip through an adhesive or may be molded onto the irrigation/aspiration tip. In some embodiments, the patch may include features to increase friction.

Patch for irrigation/aspiration tip

A tip assembly for a liquefaction surgical handpiece. The tip assembly has an inner connector and an outer cap. The outer cap contains an external thread for attaching the tip assembly to a handpiece. The inner housing contains an alignment tab and fits within the outer cap so as to allow rotation of the inner connector within the outer cap. The inner and outer liquefaction tip tubes are frictionally fit into a bore in the inner connector. The proximal end of the inner housing contains a gasket that seal the inner housing against the handpiece.

Tip assembly

A tip for a surgical handpiece having two coaxial tubes or channels mounted within a body. The tip has one or more features that shape the fluid discharge so as to optimize the performance of the handpiece for varying parts of the surgical procedure.
