A method of decreasing L*min and reducing stacked haze in a black region of an ink-jet printed image is disclosed which includes providing an ink-jet ink receptive medium and ink-jetting at least one ink-jet ink onto the medium to form a printed medium including an image having at least one black region. At least one of the ink-jet inks includes a black ink-jet ink including a liquid vehicle and a certain black azo dye having the Formula 1. The method includes stacking the printed medium, to obtain a printed medium having decreased L*min and reduced stacked haze in the black region(s).

Dye-based ink formulations

Compositions, systems, and methods of printing an ink-jet image are provided. The composition can include a liquid vehicle including water, a liquid vehicle having from 5 wt % to 35 wt % of total organic solvent content; from 1 wt % to 6 wt % of acid-functionalized pigment solids; and from 0.001 wt % to 6 wt % of styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer, said styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer having a weight average molecular weight from about 400 Mw to 15,000 Mw.

Pigmented ink-jet inks with improved print quality and reliability

Printer systems, self-dispersed black pigment ink formulations, and methods of printing, are disclosed. One exemplary printer system, among others, includes a dispensing system including a printhead. The printhead includes a self-dispersed black pigment in a first compartment fluidically communicating with an orifice plate and a first nozzle. In addition, the printhead includes a color ink in a second compartment fluidically communicating with the orifice plate and a second nozzle. The first nozzle and the second nozzle are adjacent one another on the same orifice plate.

Self-dispersed pigment ink formulations, ink-jet ink sets, printer systems, and methods of printing, are disclosed. One exemplary self-dispersed pigment ink formulation, among others, includes a self-dispersed pigment, a surface-active compound, a solvent, and an aqueous solution. The surface-active compound includes hydrophobic moieties and hydrophilic moieties, where the hydrophobic moieties are from about 25 to 75% and the hydrophilic moieties are from about 25 to 75%.

The present invention is drawn toward a black ink-jet ink, comprising a liquid vehicle and a black colorant solubilized or dispersed in the liquid vehicle. The liquid vehicle can include water, a cosolvent, a solubilized naturally occurring amino acid, and an amphoteric surfactant. Other components can optionally be present as well.

Black ink-jet inks

An ink includes a jettable vehicle, a plurality of pigment solids dispersed in the jettable vehicle, and a styrene-maleimide copolymer dispersed in the jettable vehicle. Additionally, a method of rapidly printing an ink-jet image including ink-jetting an ink-jet ink onto a media substrate at a firing frequency from 12 kHz to 25 kHz, wherein the ink-jet ink includes a jettable vehicle, a plurality of non-acid-functionalized pigment solids dispersed in the jettable vehicle, and a styerene-maleimide copolymer dispersed in the jettable vehicle.

Disclosed is an ink composition that includes a colorant; a water-soluble organic solvent; and a penetrant, where the penetrant may be a hydroxylated pentane. Also disclosed is an ink composition that includes a penetrant that enables the ink composition to maintain a drop weight of at least about 4.5 ng at high operating frequencies of an ink drop generator of the ink-jet printer.

Dye-based ink compositions

The present invention is drawn to ink sets ink-jet imaging, including ink sets having six ink-jet inks. In one embodiment, the ink set can comprise a black ink including a first organic solvent system, a cyan ink including a second organic solvent system, a magenta ink including a third organic solvent system, and a yellow ink including a fourth organic solvent system. In this embodiment, at least two of the organic solvent systems are different. The first organic solvent system can include a first organic solvent and a second organic solvent. The second and third organic solvent systems can include the first organic solvent and a third organic solvent. The fourth organic solvent system can include the second organic solvent and a fourth organic solvent. These solvent systems, and others, can also be used to prepare various dye sets that are dye specific.

Ink sets for ink-jet ink imaging

A fluid interconnect for a component of a printer is disclosed. The component may, for example, be an inkjet printhead removably attached to a printer and having an ink inlet configured to receive ink from an ink supply. The fluid interconnect has a sealing surface configured to form a seal when contacted against a opposing sealing surface on another component of a printer ink delivery system, and carries a surfactant sealant.

The present invention is drawn to ink-jet ink compositions, systems, and methods for black and color printing with substantially reduced black to color bleed. Specifically, by utilizing black dyes together with at least one long chain diol in a glycol ether, black ink-jet inks can be printed in contact with color ink-jet inks with substantially reduced black to color bleed.

Ink-jet ink compositions are described comprising a mixture of succinic acid and at least one second organic acid. The ink-jet ink compositions alleviate color bleed, and lead to reliable pen performance when incorporated in a pen architecture.

Two classes of solvents, organic esters and diols and triols, help to reduce bleed between black (pigment-containing) inks and color (water-soluble dye-based) inks when used in formulating inks that contain self-dispersed pigments. The solvents help self-dispersed pigments to agglomerate by producing successful mutual collisions when the electrostatic potential is reduced with positively charged color inks. It appears that these solvents may be changing the dielectric constant of the ink, thereby reducing the repulsion potential of the pigment particles themselves.
