An integrated light engine including flexible optics and a flexible light source, and lighting devices including the same, are provided. The integrated light engine includes a flexible light source configured to emit light, and flexible optics coupled to the flexible light source. The flexible optics beam shapes light emitted by the flexible light source. The integrated light engine is capable of entering a set of states, such that a portion of beam shaped light emitted by the integrated light engine in a first state is aimed in a first direction and a portion of beam shaped light emitted by the integrated light engine in a second state is aimed in a second direction. Different combinations of the flexible optics with the flexible light source result in the integrated light engine being able to enter a number of flexed states or being held in a substantially flat, substantially stiff state.

Integrated light engines including flexible optics and flexible light sources

An image processing apparatus is provided and includes one or more processors and a memory storing instructions. The one or more processors are controlled to receive image stream data captured by an image capturing apparatus and store, in memory, a current image frame from the received image stream data and store, in memory, a previously received image frame from the received image stream data. The previously received image frame having been received at a time earlier than the current image data frame. Using the previously received image frame data stored in memory, a compensation value representing an illumination spectrum of the previously stored image frame data is calculated and image correction is performed on the current image frame data using the calculated compensation value. The corrected current image frame for display on a display device.

Apparatus, system and method for dynamic in-line spectrum compensation of an image

Exemplary apparatus and optical systems for forward and side view apparatus are described. These apparatus include a light focusing element, a grating element inclined with respect to the optical axis of the apparatus, and a transparent element. The transparent element has a proximal surface in contact with the grating element and an inclined distal surface. Such apparatus can be used as spectrally encoded endoscopy (SEE) probes.

Forward and angle view endoscope

Optical components for lighting devices and lighting devices including such components are described. In some embodiments the optical components are in the form of a lens that alter the distribution of light produced by a lighting fixture. In some embodiments, the lenses are in the form of a downlight to wallwash lens which, when placed in a downlight fixture, convert the light distribution to that of a wallwash fixture, e.g., causing the downlight to produce an off-axis light distribution, without changing the fixture. The lens includes a body with a light source facing side and an opposite room facing side having two optically active regions, each including structures that redirect a portion of light received through the light source facing side and incident thereon. The first region includes structures that redirect, via refraction, and the second region includes structures that redirect, in part via total internal reflection.

Spectrally encoded endoscopy apparatus and methods

A probe, system, and method of capacitive sensing for detection of relative rotation of one tube with respect to a fixed tube of a probe is provided herewith. The probe includes an inner core, a concentric cylindrical tube, and at least one inner electrode fixed to the inner core and at least one outer electrode fixed to the cylindrical tube. The electrodes are rotationally aligned and form a capacitive sensor that can sense the rotation angle of the inner core compared to the cylindrical tube. This ability to sense relative rotation angle can be used to detect and/or correct for non-uniform rotational distortion.

Capacitive sensing and encoding for imaging probes

One or more spectrally encoded endoscopy (SEE) devices, systems, methods and storage mediums for characterizing, examining and/or diagnosing, and/or measuring viscosity of, a sample or object using speckle detection are provided. Examples of such applications include imaging, evaluating and diagnosing biological objects, such as, but not limited to, for Gastro-intestinal, cardio and/or ophthalmic applications, and being obtained via one or more optical instruments. Preferably, the SEE devices, systems methods and storage mediums include or involve speckle intensity autocorrelation function(s). One or more embodiments involve a serial time-encoded 2D imaging system with speckle detection to reconstruct images, store reconstructed images of the sample or object, and/or measure viscosity of the sample or object.

Diagnostic spectrally encoded endoscopy apparatuses and systems and methods for use with same

Light control films, and lighting devices including the same, are disclosed. The light control films include a single layer of light transmitting material having a first side and a second side. A plurality of first microstructures are formed in the first side. The first microstructures are configured to receive incident light from a light source and produce an off axis (e.g. batwing) light distribution in a field downstream of the second side of the light control film. In some embodiments, a plurality of second microstructures is formed on the second side of the light control films and are configured to reduce the glare produced by light emitted from the light source passing through the film.

Light control films and lighting devices including same

A novel endoscope, which can be a spectrally encoded endoscope (SEE) probe having forward-view, side-view, or a combination of forward and side views is provided herein. The SEE probe includes a light guiding component, a light focusing component, and a grating component. The probe is configured to forward a light such as a spectrally dispersed light from the grating component to a sample with no intermediate reflections between light guiding component and the grating component. A triangular grating, such as a staircase grating or an overhang grating may be used as the grating component.

Spectrally encoded probes

A three-dimensional (3D) endoscope is provided. The 3D endoscope comprises a probe; a positioning device to locate a tip of the probe at a first position O and a second position O'; a light guide extending through the probe and configured to guide a light propagating through the probe configured to project on a surface a first light beam from the tip at the first position and a second light beam from the tip at the second position; a detector configured to detect the first light beam reflected from the surface and the second light beam reflected from the surface; and an image processor configured to determine a first distance R between the first position and the surface based on a position difference between the first and second positions, a first deflection angle &#x3b8; of the first light beam deflected from the probe at the first position and a second deflection angle &#x3b8;&#x2032; of the second light beam deflected from the probe; obtain image data carried by the first and second light beams detected by the detector; and obtain a 3D image based, the first distance R, the first deflection angle &#x3b8;, and the first rotation angle &#x3c6; associated with each pixel on the image.

An image processing method. At least one light ray presented by a vector in a first affine coordinate system with a tip of the probe as an origin is projected from the tip of the probe. The light ray is intercepted from a projection surface satisfying a function in the first affine coordinate. A distance between the tip of the probe and an interception point of the light ray on the projection surface is obtained based on a rotation angle of the probe, a wavelength of the light ray, and a deflection angle of the light ray from the probe. A relationship between the first coordinate and a second affine coordinate system defined with the projection surface as a reference is obtained. Image data are acquired from the light ray reflected from the target surface presented in the first affine coordinate. The image data presented in the first affine coordinate are converted into image data presented in the second affine coordinate, and the image data in the second coordinate system are resampled by interpolating or extrapolating a gray scale.
