An apparatus installed in a head-mounted display (HMD) has a coupling prism formed by packing diagonally-reflective (DR) prisms together. Each DR prism has an internal diagonal plane that is at least partially reflective. A captured image of eye or environmental scene received by a DR prism is reflected to an image-leaving end surface thereof. Image-leaving end surfaces of all DR prisms are oriented along a same direction to optically multiplex the captured images to create a multi-channel image. An imaging sensor on the coupling prism images the multi-channel image, avoiding inter-channel interference caused by spillover of captured-image signals while allowing one imaging sensor instead of multiple ones to image the captured images. A micro display displays a visible image to one DR prism, whose internal diagonal plane reflects the visible image along a direction towards an eye. Hence, the apparatus also enables image displaying to a HMD wearer.

Imaging apparatus integrated with display for head-mounted display

Polarization-independent focusing is advantageously achieved by a multifocal system having a polarization beam splitter (PBS) to split an unpolarized light beam into two orthogonally linearly-polarized (LP) light beams. The two LP light beams are reflected by mirrors to travel in opposite directions and enter into a variable-focusing module at two ends thereof, respectively. The module includes waveplates to convert the LP light beams into two circularly-polarized (CP) light beams at both ends of an optical assembly. The optical assembly is formed with a stack of birefringent optical elements including at least one geometric phase lens and one polarization selector that may be electrically modulated to select the optical power in focusing the two CP light beams. Followed by the waveplates converting two focused CP light beams to two focused LP light beams and upon mirror reflection, the beams are finally recombined by the PBS to form one focused light beam.

Multifocal system with polarization-independent focusing

A semiconductor die pick and place device comprising a handing mechanism comprising a pick arm movable between a placement location and a pick-up location. A reference feature is located on the pick arm, and a light reflecting module is carried by the pick arm. The light reflecting module is operable to reflect an image of the reference feature to an image capturing module such that the reference feature appears to the light reflecting module to be in focus at a virtual position that is equivalent to a position at the pick-up location and/or the placement location.

Pick and place device comprising pick arm correction module

An apparatus for inspection of a surface of a device comprises a projection module operative to project a pattern along a projection axis of the projection module onto the device. An imaging module receives an image of the pattern reflected from the device along an imaging axis of the imaging module onto an image sensor. A lens comprised in the imaging module has a first magnification in a first direction orthogonal to the imaging axis and a second magnification different from the first magnification in a second direction orthogonal to both the first direction and the imaging axis, which produces different fields of view of the image sensor and resolutions of the image in the first and second directions.

Asymmetric pattern projection apparatus

A chromatic confocal scanning apparatus comprises a light source for producing light rays comprising a plurality of wavelengths, a first screen having an open elongated slit which allows a strip of light rays produced from the light source to pass through the slit and a cylindrical objective lens both to converge the light rays onto an object surface that is to be measured, and to image light rays reflected from the object surface. An intermediate cylindrical lens set converges a strip of light rays imaged from the cylindrical objective lens to pass through an open elongated slit comprised in a second screen, and a color sensor receives light rays which have passed through the slit of the second screen for determining a plurality of wavelengths of the said strip of light rays, to thereby construct a height profile of at least a portion of the object surface.

Chromatic confocal scanning apparatus

An apparatus for measuring a height of an object plane or multiple points on an object is disclosed. The apparatus comprises an imaging system having a focal plane passing through a focal point of the imaging system, wherein the focal plane of the imaging system is tilted at an oblique angle with respect to the object plane such that only a small portion of the object is in focus. Alternatively, the focal plane is tilted at an oblique angle with respect to a scanning direction of the imaging system during relative movement between the imaging system and the object.
