Electrical connector assembly with improved shielding structure

An electrical connector assembly of the present invention comprises an upper connector, a lower connector, a spacer, and a rear shield. The upper electrical connector comprises an insulative housing comprising a groove in a bottom surface thereof, a pair of shielding shells partially enclosing the housing, a plurality of electrical contacts accommodated in the insulative housing, and a front shield shielding the front and the top of the insulative housing. The front shield further defines a mounting hole in an upper section thereof for mounting the electrical connector assembly to an enclosure panel. The lower connector comprises a dielectric housing comprising a rib on a top surface thereof corresponding to the groove of the upper connector, a pair of inner shields partially enclosing the dielectric housing, and a plurality of electrical contacts mounted in the dielectric housing. Each of the electrical contacts of the upper and the lower electrical connectors comprises a soldering portion extending beyond the respective housings. The spacer forms a plurality of through holes for receiving soldering portions of corresponding electrical contacts of the upper and the lower electrical connectors and an intermediate portion engaging with the dielectric housing of the lower electrical connector. The rear shield encloses the spacer and rear portions of the upper and the lower electrical connectors.

Stacked electrical connector assembly

A stacked electrical connector for conserving space on a printed circuit board comprises a plurality of shells including an upper shell, a lower shell and a rear shell, an insulative housing, a grounding device and a plurality of contacts. The housing forms a first section, a second section and a protruding section. The protruding section has top and bottom surfaces defining recesses in central portions thereof. The grounding device has a fixing section abutting against a front face of the protruding section, a middle section and a front engaging section exposed to a mating face of the connector for engaging with a panel of a computer. The fixing section forms upper and lower retainers respectively engaging with the upper and lower shells.

Stacked electrical connector with a single grounding device

An electrical connector comprises an insulative housing, a front shell and a rear shell. The insulative housing defines a plurality of passageways for receiving terminals. A plurality of resilient strips stamped from opposite walls of the front shell press against an inserted mating connector. A guiding portion is formed on the end of each forward edge of the front shell to guide a mating electrical connector. A rear section of the insulative housing is received in the rear shell and a front section of the insulative housing is received in the receiving opening of the front shell. A pair of tabs on the top rear of the front shell engages with a pair of corresponding first recesses on a top front of the rear shell and a pair of corresponding second recesses defined in the insulative housing. A plurality of latching fingers extending from inserting plates of the front shell engages with corresponding apertures in the rear shell. Thus, the front shell, the rear shell and the insulative housing are reliably locked together and maintain their relative positions by use of multiple interconnecting latches.
