Provided is a table lamp for illuminating a task area of a table. A plurality of light sources are provided, each with a different illumination direction toward the task area. A control arrangement is provided such that the plurality of light sources are controlled based on a position of the observer. Specifically, the control arrangement determines whether each light source meets criteria governing whether the observer may experience direct and reflected glare. Indeed, if a specular peak intensity angle of the light source is less than a reflected glare avoidance angle corresponding to a position of an observer, and a sight angle from the light source to the observer is greater than a direct glare avoidance angle corresponding to the position of the observer, then the light source may be controlled to illuminate the task area. In this way, specularly reflected light glare, as well as direct light glare, may be avoided.

The invention provides a light management information system for an outdoor lighting network system, having a plurality of outdoor light units each including at least one sensor type, where each of the light units communicates with at least one other light unit, at least one user input/output device in communication with at one or more of said outdoor light units, a central management system in communication with light units, said central management system sends control commands and/or information to one or more of said outdoor light units, in response to received outdoor light unit status/sensor information from one or more of said outdoor light units or received user information requests from said user input/output device, a resource server in communication with said central management system, wherein the central management system uses the light unit status/sensor information and resources from the resource server to provide information to the user input/output device and/or reconfigure one or more of the lights units.

Methods and apparatus for information management and control of outdoor lighting networks

A luminaire has a light source carrier around a central light output window, with light sources facing a first, at least partially upward, direction. An upper reflector cover reflects light to a range of light output directions, at least partially downwardly, through the central window opening. A lens structure is formed over the set of light sources having a light diffusing output area and reflecting side walls extending between the light sources and the light diffusing output area. This design enables the luminaire to be very slim. The design may also avoid the need for a light diffusing output window.
