An environmental control system is provided. The environmental control system can include a cooling device and a heating device. The cooling device can lower the temperature of fluid contained within a cold reservoir and the heating device can raise the temperature of fluid contained within a hot reservoir.

Cooling system with a booster

An environmental control system is provided. The environmental control system can include a heat absorption device and a heat rejection device positioned in containment areas and a reservoir. The containment areas can contain leaks that may occur in the environmental control system and direct the fluid into the reservoir. The reservoir can include an opening that can allow the environmental control system to operate as a low pressure system.

Cooling system with leakage tolerance

The present disclosure relates to an air handling system which has a fan supply section for intaking warm air from a room environment, and first and second indirect evaporative cooling subsystems (IDECs) spaced apart from one another to form an air plenum and a hot aisle in communication with the air plenum. The air plenum and the hot aisle are both formed between the IDECs, with the air plenum communicating with the fan supply section to receive the warm air. The IDECs receive the warm air and cool the warm air to produce first and second cooled airflows. The system also includes spaced apart cold aisles adjacent each of the IDECs for channeling the cooled airflows into an evaporator section. The evaporator section produces a final cooled airflow which is directed back into the room environment.

Air handling system and method

A power distribution board (PDB) may be mounted in a server and used to convert a main power signal to useable power by the server components. The PDB can be mounted on an interior sidewall of the server to maximize available component space of the server. The PDB can include a power transformation section and a power distribution section. The power transformation section can convert the incoming power to the useable power and the power distribution section can output the useable power to the server components. Additional PDBs can be added to the server to accommodate additional server components.

Power distribution board

A cooling system is provided and includes pump, condenser fan, and control modules. The pump module controls a pump to pump a cooling fluid through a cooling circuit. The condenser fan module controls a condenser fan to transfer air across a condenser of the cooling circuit. The control module, while operating in a pumped refrigerant economizer mode or a mixed mode, determines a requested CFC percentage. The pump module activates the pump if the requested CFC percentage is greater than or equal to a predetermined CFC percentage. The condenser fan module: if the requested CFC percentage is greater than or equal to the predetermined CFC percentage, activates the condenser fan or operates the condenser fan at least at a minimum speed; and based on the requested CFC percentage, adjusts a speed of the condenser fan between the minimum speed and a maximum permitted speed to provide the requested CFC percentage.

Air conditioning systems and methods with cooling capacity modulation via fixed pump operation and variable condenser fan operation

A method including: determining whether a cooling system is operating in a cooling mode, such that the cooling system is not operating in a reheat mode, a humidification mode or a dehumidification mode; determining whether the cooling system is operating in a compressor mode, such that the cooling system is not operating in a pump refrigerant economization mode; determining whether the cooling system is at steady-state; and if the cooling system is operating in the cooling mode and the compressor mode and is at steady-state, evaluating one or more rules to determine if a degradation symptom exists for the cooling system. The method further includes: subsequent to the evaluation, generating a degradation evaluation value to indicate whether the one or more rules are satisfied; and based on the degradation evaluation value, generating an alarm signal or performing a countermeasure.

Systems and methods for detecting degradation of a component in an air conditioning system

A cooling system has both pumped refrigerant economization and direct expansion cooling. When outside air temperature is low enough that pumped refrigerant economization can provide enough cooling to satisfy cooling demand, only pumped refrigerant economization cooling is used to provide cooling. When outside air temperature is low enough that pumped refrigerant economization can provide some but not all of the cooling needed to satisfy cooling demand, the pumped refrigerant economization is operated at one hundred percent capacity and the direct expansion cooling is operated at a capacity to provide any supplemental cooling that is needed. If the outside air temperature is high enough that pumped refrigerant economization cannot provide any cooling, then only direct expansion cooling is used to provide cooling.

A system including a setpoint module, a summer, a control module, and an expansion valve module. The setpoint module is configured to indirectly control sub-cooling of a condenser by adjusting a superheat setpoint based on (i) a return air temperature setpoint or a supply air temperature setpoint, and (ii) an outdoor ambient temperature. The summer is configured to determine an error between the superheat setpoint and a superheat level of a compressor. The control module is configured to generate a control signal based on the error. The expansion valve module is configured to electronically control a state of an expansion valve based on the control signal.

Apparatus and method for subcooling control based on superheat setpoint control

A hybrid air handler cooling unit has a bi-modal heat exchanger. In a direct expansion mode or a pumped refrigerant economization mode, the bi-modal heat exchanger is in a refrigerant path in parallel with first and second condenser coils and functions as a condenser coil. In a mixed direct expansion/pumped refrigerant economization mode, the bi-modal heat exchanger is in a refrigerant path in series between an outlet of a pump and an inlet of the first condenser coil and functions as a pre-cooler evaporator coil with return air first flowing across the bi-modal heat exchanger and then across an evaporator coil of an evaporator.

A cooling system has a cabinet and a plurality of separate cooling stages including an upstream cooling stage and a downstream cooling stage. At least the upstream cooling state is a variable capacity cooling stage. Each cooling stage has a cooling circuit. Evaporators of the cooling circuits are arranged in the cabinet so that air passes over them in serial fashion. A controller when a Call for Cooling first reaches a point where cooling is needed, operating the upstream cooling circuit to provide cooling and not the downstream cooling circuit. When the Call for Cooling has increased to a second point, the controller additionally operates the downstream cooling circuit to provide cooling. The cooling capacity at which the upstream cooling circuit is being operated is less than its full capacity when the Call for Cooling reaches the second point.

High efficiency cooling system

In an aspect, a cooling system has a cooling circuit that includes an evaporator, a condenser, a compressor, a sub-cooler and an expansion device configured in a direct expansion cooling circuit with the sub-cooler coupled in series between an outlet of the condenser and an inlet of the expansion device. The condenser has a micro-channel cooling coil and the sub-cooler has a fin-and-tube cooling coil. In an aspect, the fin-and-tube cooling coil of the sub-cooler has a total hydraulic volume equivalent to the total hydraulic volume of the micro-channel cooling coil of the condenser but the fin-and-tube cooling coil of the sub-cooler has a face area more than two times smaller than a face area of the micro-channel cooling coil of the condenser.

A method including: determining a cooling value; and comparing the cooling value to an activation point of a lead compressor. The lead compressor is in a tandem set of scroll compressors of a cooling system. The tandem set of compressors comprises a lag compressor. The method further includes: activating the lead compressor when the cooling value is greater than the activation point; activating the lag compressor subsequent to activating the lead compressor; and determining whether conditions exist including: an alarm associated with the lag compressor being generated, and the lead compressor being deactivated. The method further includes deactivating the lag compressor when at least one of the conditions exists in the cooling system.

Scroll compressor differential pressure control during compressor startup transitions

A system includes an error module configured to integrate a difference between a superheat signal and a superheat setpoint to generate an error signal, wherein the superheat signal indicates suction superheat values of a compressor. A comparison module is configured to compare the error signal to a first predetermined threshold to generate a first comparison signal based on the comparison. A zero-crossing module is configured to compare a first count value to a second predetermined threshold to generate a second comparison signal. The first count value is generated based on at least one comparison between the superheat signal and the superheat setpoint. A setpoint module is configured to adjust the superheat setpoint based on the first comparison signal and the second comparison signal.

Expansion valve setpoint control systems and methods

A method including determining whether an OFF criterion is satisfied for a lag compressor of a tandem set of scroll compressors. The tandem set of scroll compressors includes a lead compressor. The method further includes: initiating at least one process when the OFF criterion is satisfied; and maintaining the lag compressor in an ON state for a predetermined period subsequent to the OFF criterion being satisfied. The at least one process includes at least one of: operating the lead compressor at a maximum level; overriding a motor overload protection method, wherein the motor overload protection method protects motors of the lead compressor and the lag compressor; and overriding a proportional integral derivative (PID) method to reduce a speed of a condenser fan. The PID method controls the speed of the condenser fan. A system including the lag compressor module and the lead compressor module.
