Various communication systems may benefit from enhanced cell capacity. For example, certain embodiments may benefit from improved packet capacity by managing transmissions in a cell. A method, in certain embodiments, may include determining at a network node whether a packet is of a service type. The service type may indicate that the packet is discardable. The method may also include calculating at the network node a probability factor or a scheduling adjustment factor for transmission of the packet, when it is determined that the packet is of the service type. In addition, the method may include determining at the network node whether to transmit the packet to a user equipment based on the probability factor, or adjusting at the network node a scheduler metric based on the scheduling adjustment factor.

Enhanced traffic capacity in a cell

A system for allocating resources in a communications network includes a plurality of access points, where each access point in the plurality of access points is in communication with one or more user devices. The system also includes a central controller in communication with the plurality of access points. The central controller is configured to receive traffic information and channel information for access point&#x2014;user device links in the communications network. The central controller is also configured to receive an intensity of independent homogeneous Poisson traffic intended for the one or more user devices. The central controller is further configured to determine a joint resource allocation based at least in part on the received traffic and channel information and the intensity of independent homogeneous Poisson traffic, where the joint resource allocation is determined with an algorithm.

Radio resource management in metropolitan area networks

A system for allocating resources in a communication network includes a plurality of access points and a central controller having a transceiver and a processor. Each of the plurality of access points is configured to identify traffic information and channel information and transmit the traffic information and the channel information to the central controller. The central controller is configured to receive the traffic information and the channel information from each of the plurality of access points and to determine resource allocation recommendations based at least in part on the received traffic information and the received channel information. The central controller is also configured to transmit the resource allocation recommendations to the plurality of access points. Each of the plurality of access points is configured to allocate a resource based on the resource allocation recommendations and on local network information.

Radio resource management in large wireless networks

A system for allocating resources in a communications network includes a plurality of access points and a central controller in communication with the plurality of access points. Each access point in the plurality of access points is in communication with one or more user devices. The central controller is configured to receive traffic information and channel information for access point&#x2014;user device links in the communications network. The central controller is also configured to determine a joint resource allocation based at least in part on the received traffic and channel information and at least in part on an algorithm. The central controller is further configured to transmit the joint resource allocation to the plurality of access points, where the joint resource allocation comprises spectrum allocation, user association, and power allocation.

A method for hosting a cloud-based broadband push-to-talk (PTT) configuration application includes detecting a user action taken at a remote client device providing an interface to the configuration application including an activation of an add group graphical object for adding a new group to an existing broadband PTT radio system, and further includes entrance of a unique identifier for the new group and entrance of whether the new group is a broadband-only group or a converged broadband and land-mobile-radio (LMR) group. A voice service stack associated with the broadband PTT radio system is updated to include the new group and existing other broadband mobile radios are updated via a voice service stack to reflect the added new group. Where the type of the new group is a converged broadband and LMR group, an LMR interface stack of the LMR radio system is updated to reflect the newly added group.

Method and apparatus for a cloud-based broadband push-to-talk configuration portal

A method for providing a customized user interface for group communication at a communication device is provided. An electronic processor determines a list of communication groups with which a user identifier of the communication device is registered and identifies a communication group type for each communication group in the list based on service capabilities of the respective communication group. The electronic processor assigns a set of communication group types for the user identifier and determines a type of group communication application to be configured at the communication device. The electronic processor then generates user interface elements as a function of the set of communication group types and the type of group communication application and configures the group communication application including the user interface elements at the communication device for supporting group communication.
