Sealing components having complex shapes and smooth surfaces are may be fabricated using coreactive three-dimensional printing. More specifically the invention relates to chemically resistant sealing components and methods of making said sealing components using three-dimensional printing, and that may be used in vehicle applications.

Methods of making chemically resistant sealing components

An ink-receptive coating composition. In a preferred embodiment, the composition includes (a) a polyamide, the polyamide comprising an aliphatic polyamide in particulate form, the aliphatic polyamide having a softening point in the temperature range of about 50-250&#xb0; C. and an average particle size of about 1 to 80 microns; (b) a plasticizer, the plasticizer being a solid plasticizer selected from the group consisting of alkyl sulfonamides and aromatic sulfonamides, the solid plasticizer having a melting point in the range of about 50-200&#xb0; C.; (c) a binder, the binder being a thermoplastic polymer delivered as a water-based emulsion or solution, the binder having a Tin the range of about &#x2212;20-120&#xb0; C.; (d) a dye-retention agent, the dye-retention agent comprising at least one cationic polymer; (e) an ink viscosity-modifying agent; and (f) a dispersant, the dispersant being selected from the group of cationic and non-ionic dispersants. The composition may be used to form, for example, an ink-receptive coating as part of an ink-jet recording sheet or a heat-transfer sheet.

Ink-receptive coating composition

A heat-transfer imaging system and a method of using the same. The heat-transfer imaging system includes a heat-transfer sheet and an activating ink. The heat-transfer sheet and the activating ink are specially formulated so that only the areas of the heat-transfer sheet onto which the ink has been printed become adhesive under heat-transfer conditions. This effect may be achieved by designing the sheet to include an ink-receptive coating whose melting temperature is higher than that typically encountered during normal heat-transfer conditions and by formulating the activating ink to include a plasticizer that, when printed onto the ink-receptive coating, lowers the melting temperature of the ink-receptive coating sufficiently so that the modified melting temperature falls within the temperature range encountered during heat-transfer.

Selective heat-transfer imaging system and method of using the same

This invention relates to labels. In one embodiment, the labels comprise (A) a polymer film comprising a styrenic polymer, said film having an upper surface and a lower surface, and an MVTR of from about 15 to about 150 g/m/day, and (B) a water-based adhesive in contact with the lower surface of the film. These labels can be bonded to substrates of glass, plastic or metal using the water based adhesive.

Labels and labeling process

A photo album is provided having an ink-receptive coating on a surface of the photo album. A user may write text or draw pictures on the surface with an ink pen, such as with a gel-based ink pen. The ink-receptive coating protects the ink from smudging or smearing after the ink has dried. Consequently, the text and/or picture is durable. The writable or drawable surface may be the front or back exterior surface, and/or an interior surface.

Water-absorbent film construction

Improved binders, ink-receptive compositions, and coated substrates are provided. The ink-receptive compositions contain a binder, a particulate filler, and a mordant. A preferred binder comprises one or more acrylic copolymers made with at least one wet abrasion resistance-enhancing monomer. Papers, films, labels and similar products, coated with an ink-receptive composition, are also provided.

The cover of a binder is provided with a coating which is receptive to inks which are water based, solvent based or gel based, and which is substantially water-fast after the ink has dried. A coated transparent sheet may be provided on the front cover of the binder to form a pocket so that visual material inserted in the pocket may be traced, and so that the cover may be personalized. The coating may include porous pigment and a binder which includes as a component a water soluble polymer.

Drawable and/or traceable binder

A method for making a transistor device includes embossing to separate parts of a layer of electrically-conducting material, thereby separating a source and a drain. The gap between the source and the drain is filled with a semiconductor material, and the source and drain are operatively coupled to a gate to make a transistor. The electrically-conducting material and the semiconductor material may be deposited using printing processes, and the various steps in the method of making the device may be performed in one or more row-to-row operations.

The cover of a binder or album is provided with a coating which is receptive to inks which are water based, solvent based or gel based, and which is substantially water-fast after the ink has dried. A coated transparent or translucent sheet may be provided on the front cover of the binder to form a pocket so that visual material inserted in the pocket may be traced, and so that the cover may be personalized. The coating may include finely divided porous particulates and a binder which includes as a component a water soluble polymer. The coating may be applied to backpacks, zippered binders, and pencil pouches, and to the transparent sheet material overlying photographs mounted in a photo album. Personalized writing or designs may be written or drawn onto the coated products using ink pens of virtually any type.
