A lubricant composition may be of use in lubrication of an internal combustion engine. A method of utilizing such a lubricant composition may include: lubricating an internal combustion engine using a lubricant composition comprising: from about 30.0 mass % to about 99.8 mass % of an oil base stock, based on a total mass of the lubricant composition, the oil base stock comprising at least one polyol ester; and from 1.0 mass % to 30.0 mass % polyisobutylene, based on a total mass of the lubricant composition; and combusting a fuel in the internal combustion engine.

Internal combustion engine lubricant

This disclosure relates to a lubricating oil (e.g., gear oil) for use in an electric or hybrid vehicle. The lubricating oil has a composition including one or more lubricating oil base stocks as a major component, and one or more lubricating oil additives, as a minor component. The one or more lubricating oil base stocks include at least one Group IV base oil, or at least one Group V base oil. The lubricating oil has a kinematic viscosity (KV) from 1 cSt to 7 cSt at 100&#xb0; C. as determined by ASTM D-445, and an electrical conductivity at room temperature of less than 15,000 pS/m as determined by ASTM D-2624. This disclosure also relates to methods for producing a lubricating oil for a transmission, gear train, gear set, gear box, or gears of an electric vehicle powertrain and methods for improving energy efficiency, while maintaining or improving wear control.

Low viscosity gear oil compositions for electric and hybrid vehicles

Sulfur-free, ashless, and low phosphorus-containing lubricant compositions for use as engine oil having improved oxidation stability. The lubricant composition can include about 60.0 mass % to about 99.8 mass % of an oil base stock, at least one ashless antiwear additive, at least one ashless detergent, and at least one antioxidant, based on a total mass of the lubricant composition. The oil base stock can include at least one polyalphaolefin and at least one alkyl naphthalene. The lubricant composition can contain less than about 0.05 mass % phosphorus, less than about 0.05 mass % sulfur, and less than about 0.05 mass % ash. The lubricant composition can be made by a process that includes combining the above-mentioned components to provide a lubricant composition.

Sulfur-free, ashless, low phosphorus lubricant compositions with improved oxidation stability

Naphtha boiling range compositions are provided that can have improved combustion properties (relative to the research octane number of the composition) in spark ignition engines and/or compression ignition engines. The improved combustion properties can be achieved by controlling the total combined amounts of n-paraffins and isoparaffins that include a straight-chain propyl group (R&#x2014;CH&#x2014;CH&#x2014;CH&#x2014;R). For such a straight-chain propyl group, Rcan correspond to any convenient CHgroup that can appear in a paraffin or isoparaffin. Rcan correspond to a hydrogen atom, making the straight-chain propyl group a terminal n-propyl group; or Rcan correspond to any convenient CHgroup that can appear in a paraffin or isoparaffin.

Fuel compositions for controlling combustion in engines

A method for preventing or reducing engine knock or pre-ignition in a high compression spark ignition engine with relatively high oil consumption, lubricated with a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil. The formulated oil has a composition that contains a lubricating oil base stock comprising at least one ester including at least one group selected from the group consisting of Formula (1), Formula (2), Formula (3) and Formula (4) below or at least one ester having at least 25% of its carbons in the form of methyl groups: The lubricating oils of this disclosure are useful as passenger vehicle engine oil (PVEO) products.

Composition and method for preventing or reducing engine knock and pre-ignition in high compression spark ignition engines

A method for preventing or reducing engine knock or pre-ignition in a high compression spark ignition engine lubricated with a lubricating oil by introducing to a combustion chamber of the engine from 0.1 to 5% by volume of the gasoline used a lubricating oil as a formulated oil, said formulated oil having a composition comprising (i) a major amount of a lubricating oil base stock comprising at least 80% by weight of one branched ester having at least 15% of the total carbons in the form of methyl groups, and (ii) a minor amount of at least one ashless amine phosphate antiwear additive. Also provided is a lubricating engine oil for high compression spark ignition engines including (i) a major amount of a lubricating oil base stock comprising at least 80% by weight formula I below: esterified (per &#x2014;OH basis) with 25 to 100% isobutyric acid and 0 to 75% 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid, wherein R is a H, methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, or isobutyl, and (ii) a minor amount of at least one amine phosphate ashless antiwear additive.

Method and composition for preventing or reducing engine knock and pre-ignition in high compression spark ignition engines

A method for improving fuel efficiency testing precision in on-road vehicles. The method comprises: installing one or more dataloggers in one or more vehicles, each datalogger configured to receive fuel consumption data broadcast by an on-road vehicle's engine control unit (ECU); transmitting the fuel consumption data from the one or more dataloggers in the one or more on-road vehicles to a processor; and analyzing, using the processor, the fuel consumption data from the one or more dataloggers in the one or more on-road vehicles to determine fuel efficiency of the one or more on-road vehicles. The fuel consumption data comprises fuel rate data from the ECU which is transmitted through the one or more dataloggers, engine speed and other operating parameters from the ECU that are transmitted through the one or more dataloggers, torque sensor data which is transmitted through the one or more dataloggers, and traditional fuel log data.
