A data acquisition system can include a central controller to provide a data acquisition signal. The data acquisition system can also include a cabinet to receive the data acquisition signal. The cabinet can have an array of modules installed therein. The cabinet can include a backplane connected to each module of the array of modules. The backplane can provide a status request signal to a given module in the array of modules if the given module is assigned a module address identified by the data acquisition signal. The given module can provide status data characterizing an operational status of the given module in response to the status request.

Data acquisition

A data acquisition system can include a central controller to provide a data acquisition system signal. The data acquisition system can also include a cabinet to receive the data acquisition system signal. The cabinet can have an array of modules installed therein. The cabinet can include a backplane connected to each module of the array of modules. The backplane can provide a status request signal to a given module in the array of modules if the given module is assigned a module address identified by the data acquisition system signal. The given module can provide status data characterizing an operational status of the given module in response to the status request.

A phase lock control system is presented for controlling a voltage controlled oscillator. The system includes a voltage controlled oscillator that produces a frequency signal exhibiting an output frequency that varies dependent upon the value of a control voltage applied thereto. A frequency deviation determining system employs a counter intermittently triggered ON for a fixed time by successive timing pulses received from a reference source and a comparator that determines any frequency deviation of the output frequency relative to a preset frequency. An error filter monitors the comparator for any frequency deviation for a plurality of samples of the frequency deviation determinations. A controller varies the control voltage to vary the output frequency in a direction to eliminate any frequency deviation.

Phase lock control system for a voltage controlled oscillator

The operational state transitions and events of an RF transmitter having a plurality of operational states are monitored and recorded. A plurality of ports are provided that each receive an indication of an occurrence of an event that can cause a transition from one state to another of the plurality of states. A transition status memory stores transition status data representing the status of each associated state. A micro-controller is programmed so that it determines, for each state, from the indications whether a state transition has occurred and, if so, it causes an appropriate change in the associated transition state data stored in the memory.

Operational state transition and event logging system for an RF transmitter

A multiple mode RF power amplifier system is presented having N different power control modes for controlling the level of the output RF power relative to applied input power. The system includes a mode controller that receives one of N different mode select commands and in response thereto selects one of N different control modes to be operational. A gain controller controls the gain of the power amplifier system so as to control the level of the output RF power as a function of a control signal applied thereto. The control signal is applied to the gain controller wherein the control signal has a value dependent upon which of the N modes has been selected.

RF power amplifier system having a plurality of different power control modes

The fault status of various components of an RF transmitter is monitored and recorded. A plurality of ports each receive an indication of an active or an inactive fault status from an associated one of a plurality of monitored the components. A multi-bit fault status structure is provided with each bit being associated with one of the monitored components and having a binary value representative of either an active fault status or an inactive fault status of the associated one of the monitored components. A micro-controller is programmed so that it determines whether any of the fault status indications have been changed from being an inactive status to an active status. If so, for each the monitored component, it sets the corresponding bit in the fault status structure to an active fault indication. If not, it resets the corresponding bit in the fault status structure to an inactive fault indication. The micro-controller is further programmed so that it provides a fault log that contains a record of the faults.

RF transmitter fault and data monitoring, recording and accessing system

A power amplifier system for use in amplifying an RF input signal exhibiting a given operating frequency within a known range of frequencies. The system includes a signal modulator that receives and modifies the input signal and provides therefrom a modified first signal. A power amplifier receives and amplifies the modified first signal. A first power detector detects the input signal and provides therefrom an average input power signal representative of the average input power thereof. A second power detector connected to the output of the amplifier provides an output average power signal representative of the average output power thereof. A controller adjusts the magnitude of said average input power signal and the magnitude of said average output power signal as a function of the operating frequency. The controller compares the adjusted said input average power signal and said adjusted output average power signal and controls said modulator in accordance therewith. Also, the amplifier includes a plurality of sub-amplifiers that are monitored for failure and adjustments are made to the average output power signal as needed.

Power amplifier system having frequency and amplifier failure compensation

A power amplifier system is presented for use in amplifying an RF input signal comprising N sub-power amplifiers are connected together in parallel with each receiving and amplifying a portion of the RF input signal. A combiner combines the amplified portions of the RF input signal to provide a combined output signal. Each sub-amplifier includes at least one transistor having an input port that receives a DC bias voltage and an output port, such that when the RF input signal is not present a quiescent current flows through the output port. A controller is operative when the RF signal is not present to check and adjust the magnitude of the quiescent current flowing in each of the sub-amplifier output ports in the sequence of 1 . . . N.

A power amplifier system is presented for amplifying an RF input signal. The system includes a vector modulator for receiving and modifying an input signal and providing therefrom a modified signal. The system also includes at least one power amplifier the operation of which is monitored and the vector modulator is controlled in accordance with the monitoring.

Power amplifier having monitoring and circuit protection

An RF power amplifier control system is presented herein. The system includes a group of power amplifier modules for amplifying an RF signal. Each group includes first and second group controllers for, when on, controlling the operation of the power amplifier modules including turning on and turning off each of the modules within the group. The first group controller is normally on for controlling the amplifier operation and the second group controller is turned on for controlling the operation only when the first controller is turned off. First and second central controllers are provided for, when on, controlling the operation of the first and second group controllers. The first central controller is normally on to provide the control operation and the second central controller monitors the operation of the first controller and performs the control operation in the event that the first central controller malfunctions.
