An antenna assembly includes a metasurface antenna unit including a radiating structure, a feeding structure, and a grounding structure therebetween. The radiating structure includes radiating elements arranged in an m×n grid of m rows of radiating elements and n columns of radiating elements, where n is greater than m. The radiating elements are separated by radiating slots with edges of the radiating elements facing each other across the radiating slots. The grounding structure includes a ground plane having a coupling aperture therethrough. The feeding structure includes a single strip feedline for feeding the radiating elements. The strip feedline passes across the coupling aperture and feeds the radiating structure through the coupling aperture. At least one of the radiating elements is fed through at least one other radiating element across the corresponding radiating slot.

Metasurface antenna

There is provided an antenna structure for a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader. The antenna structure includes a substrate, and an antenna structure disposed on the substrate. The antenna includes a peripheral frame portion, a first strip section disposed at a first side of the peripheral frame portion, and a second strip section disposed at a second side of the peripheral frame portion. In particular, the first strip section and the second strip section each includes multiple spaced-apart strip portions extending from a first part of the peripheral frame portion to a second part of the peripheral frame portion. There is also provided a method of manufacturing the antenna structure, an RFID reader system including the antenna structure, and an RFID system including the RFID reader system and an RFID tag.

Antenna structure for a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader, method of manufacturing thereof, RFID reader and RFID system

The antenna () has a radiating element () for transmitting and receiving signals. The radiating element () comprises a first portion (), a second portion () and a notch (). The notch () extends from a portion o the periphery of the radiating element into the radiating element and is for substantially segregating the radiating element into the first portion () and the second portion (). The radiating element () also has an interconnecting portion () for structurally interconnecting the first portion and the second portion. The interconnecting portion is formed substantially distal to the portion of the periphery of the radiating element. In addition, the antenna () has a first arm () that extends from the first portion of the radiating element for modifying the operating frequency range of the antenna.

Compact antennas for ultra-wideband applications

An antenna comprising a radiating element for transmitting and receiving communication signals is disclosed. A load and a feed are connectable to the radiating element and that the feed is spaced apart from the load. The radiating element is a planar loop having two free ends to which the load and the feed are connected. The load has two distal terminals, one of which is connected to one of the two free ends and the other is provided for connecting to one of grounding and another radiating element.

Antennas for ultra-wideband applications

An antenna array having a plurality of array elements is disclosed. The antenna array comprises a first array element (A) having a first suspended radiator (A) and a first ground conductor (A), the first suspended radiator being displaced from the first ground conductor. The antenna also comprises a second array element (B) being adjacent to the first array element, the second array element having a second suspended radiator (B) and a second ground conductor (B), wherein the second suspended radiator is displaced from the second ground conductor. In the antenna the first ground conductor is adjacent to and displaced from the second ground conductor and the first ground conductor is disposed on a first tier and the second ground conductor is disposed on a second tier to form an at least two-tiered ground conductor.

Compact multi-tiered plate antenna arrays

A multiple frequency band antenna is disclosed involving a first resonant portion tuned to a low frequency band; a second resonant portion tuned to a first high frequency band at frequencies higher than the low frequency band; a third resonant portion tuned to a second high frequency band at frequencies higher than the low frequency band and substantially different from the first high frequency band; and a first conductor portion forming part of the first resonant portion and the second resonant portion, the first conductor portion having a grounding point, a feeding point for providing an input signal to at least one of the first resonant portion and the second resonant portion and for receiving an output signal from at least one of the first resonant portion and the second resonant portion, and a second conductor portion electrically connected to the feeding point wherein the third resonant portion is electrically connected to the second conductor portion.
