A head-mounted display including multiple displays tiled together is provided. A first display may include an active region and an inactive region. A second display may be aligned with the inactive region. The first display and the second display may have different resolutions and may present visual information with different display qualities based on their respective resolutions. For example, the first display may include a lower resolution than the second display. The inactive region may be centered in the first display, and the second display may be centered with respect to the first display. The head-mounted display may provide a continuous image(s) (or video(s)) with a high resolution on the second display, while providing the remainder of the image(s) on the low resolution first display. Based on the multiple displays being tiled, the multiple displays may present one or more images, or one or more videos, in a non-overlapping manner.

Multi-display assembly for artificial reality systems

An electronic device may include an organic light emitting display (OLED), a heat generating device, and a heat spreading device. The heat generating device may provide heat directly to the heat spreading device, and the heat spreading device is to dissipate the heat from the heat generating device and evenly heat the OLED and lower a driving voltage of the OLED to reduce power consumption of the OLED.

Electronic device having an organic light emitting display

A method of manufacturing a display system includes forming a display element having a display active area over a silicon backplane, forming a display driver integrated circuit (DDIC), and bonding the display element to the display driver integrated circuit (DDIC). The display active area may include a light emitting diode such as an organic light emitting diode (OLED). Separately forming the display and the display circuitry may simplify formation of the OLED and allow for a higher density control interface between the display and the DDIC.

Low cost micro OLED structure and method

Described is a system including a display, a display controller, and control logic communicatively coupled to the display. The display controller determines, based on coordinates of a focus point on the display, boundaries of a first image region and a second image region in an output image to be rendered. The focus point is determined through tracking an eye movement of a user viewing the display. The first image region has a higher resolution than the second image region. The display controller is configured to send image data together with control signals to the control logic. The control signals cause the control logic to render the output image on the display using the image data. As part of rendering the second image region, the control logic outputs a shared signal onto signal lines that are coupled to light sources in a group of adjacent rows or columns.

Eye-tracking based foveation control of displays

A method of leakage-compensated global illumination comprises obtaining position data for at least one of a head or an eye of a user of a display system by an application processor, rendering image data for an image frame by the application processor based on the position data, modifying the image data to compensate for leakage associated with a global illumination by a display of the display system, and sending the image data to a display driver circuit of the display system for displaying the image frame on the display through the global illumination.

Switch leakage compensation for global illumination

A method including determining a maximum luminance location of a display based on a field of view of an eye of a user of the display, and driving a plurality of light sources in the display based on locations of the plurality of light sources with respect to the maximum luminance location of the display. The plurality of light sources is controlled to have different luminance levels in different display zones corresponding to different zones on the retina of the eye of the user. In some examples, the display zones of the display system that have higher luminance levels can be dynamically changed based on the field of view or the gaze direction of the eye of the user.

Methods of driving light sources in a near-eye display

Examples disclosed herein obtain first image data and the second image data for a foveated image frame to be displayed on a display, the first image data to have a first resolution and the second image data to have a second resolution lower than the first resolution. Disclosed examples also up-sample the second image data based on first metadata to generate up-sampled second image data, the up-sampled second image data to have the first resolution, and combine the first image data and the up-sampled second image data based on second metadata. Disclosed examples further perform, based on third metadata, a combination of at least two different filter operations on an overlap region including a portion of the first image data and a portion of the up-sampled second image data to generate the foveated image frame, the third metadata to specify a width in pixels of the overlap region.

Foveated image rendering for head-mounted display devices

A display system includes (a) a display element having an organic light emitting diode-containing display active area disposed over a silicon backplane, (b) a display driver integrated circuit (DDIC) attached to the display element and electrically connected with the display active area, and (c) a thermal barrier disposed within the silicon backplane, where the thermal barrier is configured to inhibit heat flow through the silicon backplane and into the display active area.

In an example, a micro light emitting diode pixel structure includes a plurality of inorganic micro light emitting diode devices in a dielectric layer. An organic light emitting diode device is in the dielectric layer and laterally adjacent to the plurality of inorganic micro light emitting diode devices. A transparent conducting oxide layer is above the dielectric layer and can act as a common cathode electrode for the inorganic and organic light emitting diodes.

Micro light-emitting diode displays having hybrid inorganic-organic pixel structures

Embodiments relate to coordinating operation of an under-display camera and a portion of a display panel over the camera to reduce impact of light emitted from the display panel during light sensing periods of the under-display camera. Depending on the level of light in the surrounding of an electronic device, the light emission period of the display panel and the light sensing period of the under-display camera are adjusted. The timing of the light emission period and the light sensing period are controlled so that a row of pixels in the display panel is not in the light emission period when corresponding row or rows of sensors in the under-display camera are in the light sensing period. In this way, the under-display camera may capture images without the influence of light emitted from the display panel.

Scheme for operating under-display camera to prevent light interference from display

Technologies for power efficient display synchronization are disclosed. A compute device may be connected to two display devices. The compute device may send image data to be displayed on each of the display devices in a burst mode, sending the image data in less time than the time between frames. The compute device may then enter a low-power state prior to sending the next image to the display devices. Before sending the next image to the display devices, the compute device may send a synchronization signal, which the display devices may use to synchronize the timing of displaying images between the two display devices.

Technologies for power efficient display synchronization

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a pixel circuit with a burn-in compensation. The pixel circuit includes a light-emitting diode (LED), a first driving transistor between a voltage source and the LED, a switching transistor coupled to a gate electrode of the first driving transistor, and a second driving transistor connected between the voltage source and the LED. The first driving transistor provides first current from the voltage source to the LED according to a gate voltage of the first driving transistor. The switching transistor is turned on after receiving an enable signal. The second driving transistor provides second current from the voltage source to the LED according to a version of the gate voltage of the first driving transistor received at a gate of the second driving transistor via the switching transistor.

Burn-in compensation scheme for light-emitting diode based displays

Embodiments relate to a pixel circuit of a display with a pixel level burn-in compensation. The pixel circuit includes a light-emitting diode (LED), a first driving transistor between a voltage source and the LED, an enable transistor coupled to a gate electrode of the first driving transistor, and a second driving transistor connected between the voltage source and the LED. The first driving transistor provides first current from the voltage source to the LED according to a gate voltage of the first driving transistor. The enable transistor turns on responsive to a voltage level at an anode of the LED increasing to a threshold voltage level. The second driving transistor provides second current from the voltage source to the LED according to a version of the gate voltage of the first driving transistor received at a gate electrode of the second driving transistor via the enable transistor.

Pixel level burn-in compensation for light-emitting diode based displays

A system includes a display panel, a temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of the display panel, a thermoelectric device coupled to the display panel and configured to transfer heat to or from the display panel, and a controller electrically coupled to the temperature sensor and the thermoelectric device. The controller is configured to receive the measured temperature of the display panel and, based on the measured temperature of the display panel, send a second signal to the thermoelectric device to cause the thermoelectric device to remove a first quantity of heat from the display panel or send a third signal to the thermoelectric device to cause the thermoelectric device to provide a second quantity of heat to the display panel.
