In a method of treating a sandstone-containing formation penetrated by a wellbore, a treatment fluid comprising an aqueous fluid containing a Bronsted acid, a hydrogen fluoride source and an organic acid or salt thereof that is substantially soluble in the aqueous fluid is formed. The treatment fluid contains less than about 2% of fluoride (F) by weight of the fluid and from 2% or less of sodium (Na) by weight of the fluid. The treatment fluid is introduced into the formation through the wellbore as a single-stage without introducing an acid-containing fluid preflush into the formation prior to introducing the treatment fluid.

Method for single-stage treatment of siliceous subterranean formations

Methods are given for making scale inhibitors, that were previously incompatible with fluids containing fluoride ion, compatible with fluids containing fluoride ion. Examples of such scale inhibitors include phosphonates and phosphino-polycarboxylates. The method is replacing alkali metal and alkaline earth metal cations, present in salts or bases, or as counter ions of the scale inhibitors, with hydrogen or ammonium ions. Methods of inhibiting scale formation and of dissolving scales are also given.

Scale inhibitors compatible with sandstone acidizing

A dry solid composition is disclosed that, when added to an aqueous liquid, provides a slurry that can be used in sandstone acid fracturing. The slurry generates hydrofluoric acid downhole to etch the sandstone fracture faces created. The chemical and physical properties of the composition result in very uneven etching of the fracture faces, enhancing the fluid conductivity of the final fracture. Optionally, inert masking materials may be included in the dry composition, or added to the slurry, to increase the inhomogeneity of the etching and further increase the fluid conductivity.

Solid sandstone dissolver

A method is described for treating a subterranean formation with a low viscosity fluid system that contains a surfactant or mixture of surfactants that does not divert fluid flow in the formation, but that develops the ability to divert flow as the fluid flows through the formation. The fluid optionally contains a formation-dissolving agent. The fluid is used in matrix acidizing, acid fracturing, and diversion.

A fluid-loss pill that includes a brine solution and an effective amount of a viscoelastic surfactant is disclosed. The viscoelastic surfactant preferably includes at least one compound selected from the family of compounds described by where R, R, R, Rand Rare carbon atom or carbon chains, saturated or unsaturated, single or multiple unsaturation, straight chain, branched chain or cyclic including aromatic or alicyclic groups, and Rcontains 16&#x2013;26 carbon atoms, Rcontains 2&#x2013;10 carbon atoms, R, Rand Rcontains 1&#x2013;6 carbon atoms. Methods of treating a well that include injecting fluid-loss pill into a well to control lost-circulation or to kill a well.

Non-Damaging Fluid-Loss Pill and Method of Using the Same

A viscous aqueous high density well treatment fluid composition stable at high temperature containing a surfactant and inorganic salts is described. Methods of preparing the fluid and increasing the stability and viscosity of the fluid are given. The fluid is useful for wellbore cleanout, hydraulic fracturing, gravel packing, completion, acid diversion, lost circulation reduction, well killing, cementing, selective water shutoff, and fracture fluid diversion.
