The invention is directed to joint assemblies comprising at least two adjacent panels and a jointing composition adhering to and positioned between the at least two adjacent panels, methods for installing joint assemblies, and jointing compositions. The jointing compositions include a sealant composition and a long chain ester in an amount of about 0.1% to about 15% by weight, based on the weight of the sealant composition in the jointing composition.

A sealant composition comprising a sealant, an adhesive resin, and a long chain ester, particularly dimerate and trimerate esters, is capable of unexpected adhesion to substrates such as ceramic substrates (e.g., concrete), glass substrates, metal substrates such as metal flat stock materials, polymeric substrates including substrates comprising natural and/or synthetic rubbers and substrates comprising thermoplastic polymeric materials, particularly for use in sealing around bathroom fixtures, in storage areas, vents, plumbing lines, flooring, wheel wells, and the like.

Adhesion promoters for sealants

A rubber composition including a natural or synthetic rubber, and an adhesive resin capable of unexpected adhesion to metal, polymer and glass substrates, particularly cords in radical tires, hoses, conveyor belts, transmission belts, and the like by the addition of a liquid composition containing long chain esters, including mono, di- and tri-esters, and one or more reactive diluents. In the preferred embodiment, the reactive diluent is selected from (1) glycidyl ethers, (2) diglycidyl ethers; (3) aliphatic, straight chain epoxides; (4) epoxidized vegetable oils, particularly epoxidized soybean oil; (5) cycloaliphatic epoxies; (6) glycidyl esters, and (7) diglycidyl esters.
