Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, estimating a location of a mobile device based on a first wireless signal transmitted by one of a first group of wireless anchors of a first location service operating within a first area. Ranges between the mobile device and a group of wireless reference devices are determined responsive to the location indicating the mobile device is proximate to a predetermined transition region. A handover requirement is identified according to the range information and, responsive to this requirement, the mobile device is configured to receive a second wireless signal transmitted one of a second group of wireless anchors of a second location service operating within a second area. The location of the mobile device may be determined according to the second wireless signal, without reference to the first wireless signal. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Systems and methods for locating a position of a mobile device are provided. The system can include a plurality of anchors. Each anchor can be positioned at a fixed location. The plurality of anchors can be configured to communicate with one another and with the mobile device by transmitting data packets formatted according to a media access control (MAC) frame structure. The MAC frame structure can include a beacon period for synchronizing the plurality of anchors in the system via transmission of a first set of communication packets. The MAC frame structure can include a contention-free period. The MAC frame structure can include a contention period. The system can include a position estimator configured to estimate the position of the mobile device.

Media access control (MAC) frame structure and data communication method in a real-time localization system

Systems and methods for locating a position of a target object are provided. The target object can be equipped with a plurality of spatially distributed antennas, and can be located within a network of a plurality of anchors at fixed locations. A plurality of anchor pairs can be assigned. Each anchor pair can include at least two anchors. The anchor pairs can transmit and receive range request (REQ) and range response (RSP) packets. The REQ and RSP packets can be received by the antennas on the target object. Distance differences between the target object to the first anchor and from the target object to the second anchor of each anchor pair can be estimated, based on times at which the REQ packet and the RSP packet are received at the target object. The position of the target object can be estimated based on the distance differences.

Method and apparatus for determining location of an object

Devices, systems, and method for compensating for non-line-of-sight ('NLOS') bias in time difference of arrival ('TDOA') estimates between a first anchor and a second anchor in a network having an obstacle in the line-of-sight therebetween are provided. The systems and methods include transmitting a first packet from a first anchor; indirectly receiving the first packet by a second anchor, then transmitting a second packet by the second anchor; indirectly receiving the second packet by the first anchor; and receiving the first packet and the second packet by a mobile node. The true fly-time of the first or second packets between the first anchor and the second anchor and the bias in time of flight of the first or second packets between the first anchor and the second anchor are estimated. The time difference of arrival at the mobile device between a direct path and an indirect path is further estimated and the NLOS bias in the time difference of arrival estimated at the mobile device is corrected.

The present invention relates generally to semiconductor structures and methods of manufacturing and, more particularly, to improving heat dissipation of devices, such as active devices like inductors, by filling portions of the semiconductor structure with thermally conductive and electrical isolating material that may serve as a heat sink to a base substrate. In an embodiment, an inductor may be formed above a cavity region in which the thermally conductive and electrical isolating material has been formed. Heat may then be dissipated from the inductor to the cavity, and eventually to the base substrate, through trenches filled with the thermally conductive and electrical isolating material.

In a second embodiment, a method of providing location based services using location capable beacon devices is disclosed. Method, system, and apparatus for determining and provisioning location information of wireless devices

According to a structure herein, a silicon substrate has an active device in the silicon substrate. A dielectric film is on the active device. An isolation trench is in the dielectric film surrounding the active device. The trench extends through the dielectric film and at least partially into the silicon substrate. A core is in the isolation trench. The core comprises material having thermal conductivity greater than silicon dioxide and electrical conductivity approximately equal to silicon dioxide.

Heat dissipation through device isolation

Disclosed are semiconductor-on-insulator (SOI) structures comprising an SOI device (e.g., an SOI metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET)) with local heat dissipater(s). Each heat dissipater comprises an opening, which is adjacent an active region of the SOI device, which extends through the insulator layer on which the SOI device sits to the semiconductor substrate below, and which is at least partially filled with a fill material. This fill material is a thermal conductor so as to dissipate heat generated by the SOI device and is also an electrical isolator so as to minimize current leakage. In the case of MOSFET, the local heat dissipater(s) can be aligned below the source/drain extension(s) or the source/drain(s). Alternatively, the local heat dissipater(s) can be aligned below the channel or parallel and adjacent to opposing sides of the channel. Also disclosed herein are methods of forming these SOI structures.

An isolation structure can include a structure material with thermal conductivity greater than silicon dioxide, yet electrical conductivity such that the structure material can replace silicon dioxide as an insulator. At least one column can extend to a target layer from a top surface of a semiconductor device near an active area of the device. At least one lateral portion can extend from the column(s) substantially parallel to the target layer and can extend between multiple columns in the target layer, such as in a cavity formed by lateral etching. The structure material can include, for example, aluminum nitride (AlN).

Synchronization methods and systems for communications over a multi-band system are presented. A synchronization technique for communications over a multi-band system includes receiving a packet of preamble symbols respectively transmitted over a sequence of frequency sub-bands according to one of a plurality of frequency hopping patterns, wherein the plurality of frequency hopping patterns are partitioned into a plurality of disjoint groups, each group having a different associated periodicity; computing, in parallel, respective autocorrelation values of the packet received in a selected frequency sub-band at a plurality of symbol delays; and selecting one of the plurality of groups of frequency hopping patterns based on the autocorrelation values at the plurality of symbol delays.
