A method for providing a substrate coated with a cured damping coating including: applying a curable liquid damping composition to a substrate, wherein said curable liquid damping composition includes an admixture of certain Michael acceptor(s), certain Michael donor(s), a base catalyst; a rheology modifier; and a solid filler; wherein the filler is a different material than the rheology modifier; wherein the curable damping composition has a PVC of from 20% to 70%; and drying/curing the applied curable damping composition at a temperature of from 0&#xb0; C. to 250&#xb0; C. is provided. Also provided is a substrate coated with the cured damping coating.

A laminating adhesive composition comprising a) an aqueous dispersion of thermoplastic polymer particles imbibed with an epoxy compound wherein the concentration of the epoxy compound is from 1 weight percent to 40 weight percent, based on the total weight of the solid content of the aqueous dispersion; and b) at least one water emulsifiable or water dispersible epoxy curing agent selected from polyamines, polyamides, amidoamines, carboxylic functional polyesters, anhydrides, mercaptans, polymer captans, cyclic amidines, and combinations thereof, is disclosed.

Acrylic/epoxy hybrid materials for laminating adhesive applications

The present invention provides aqueous compositions useful as zero VOC coating compositions having a % opacifying pigment volume concentration (% OPVC) of from 2 to 25 and comprising (i) an opacifier composition of an at least partially polymer encapsulated opacifying pigment, a polymer opacifying pigment composite or their mixtures, with the opacifying pigment, encapsulated in and/or as a composite with at least one soft polymer having a measured glass transition temperature (measured Tg) of 5&#xb0; C. or less, and (ii) a hard binder polymer having a measured Tg of at least 30&#xb0; C. and a weight average particle size of 120 nm or less, wherein the ratio of the weight average particle size of the opacifier composition to that of the hard binder polymer is from 2:1 to 12:1 and the volume ratio of the opacifying pigment to the soft polymer solids in the opacifier composition is from 2:5 to 1:1.

Aqueous coating compositions having low or zero VOCs and comprising encapsulated or polymer adsorbed pigments and letdown binders

The present invention relates to a coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a) carboxylate salt functionalized first thermoplastic polymer particles; b) second thermoplastic polymer particles imbibed with a thermosettable compound and functionalized with anti-agglomerating groups; c) an extender; and d) a volatile base. The composition of the present invention is suitable as a waterborne quick-set formulation useful as a traffic paint.

A waterborne sound and vibration damping composition including a waterborne emulsion polymer, the polymer having a calculated acid number of from 2 to 100; from 0.1% to 50%, solids based on emulsion polymer solids, of certain liquid compounds having a boiling point greater than 150&#xb0; C.; and a solid filler at a level of from 25% to 85% PVC; wherein the waterborne damping composition has a water content of from 6% to 25% by weight is provided. A method for providing a coated substrate using the waterborne damping composition and a substrate so coated are also provided.

Waterborne damping composition

The present invention provides aqueous polymer compositions containing one or more, or, preferably, two or more markers selected from a C-Calkyl phenyl ether having a formula Ph(R)(OR), wherein Ph is an aromatic ring containing group having from six to nine carbon atoms, Ris a C-Calkyl group, Ris a C-Calkyl group, m is an integer of from 0 to 5, n is an integer of from 1 to 3, and (m+n) is an integer of from 1 to 6. The markers are readily detectable, such as by mass spectroscopy, upon solvent extraction and separation from the aqueous polymer compositions, or from dried or cured coatings, film or layers thereof.

Markers for aqueous compositions

The present invention provides aqueous polymer compositions containing one or more, or, preferably, two or more triphenylmethyl alkyl aryl ether markers having a formula (PhC)Ar(OR), wherein Ph is a phenyl group, Ar is an aromatic ring containing group having from six to twenty carbon atoms, R is a C-Calkyl group, m is an integer of from 1 to 2, and n is an integer of from 1 to 4. The markers are readily detectable, such as by mass spectroscopy, upon solvent extraction and separation from the aqueous polymer compositions, or from dried or cured coatings, film or layers thereof.

Provided is a binder composition and its use in aqueous based paints and coatings and other applications. The binder composition comprises: a polyurethane dispersion containing water and a polyurethane polymer, wherein the polyurethane polymer is prepared by reacting a nitroalcohol compound, a polyol compound, a polyisocyanate compound, and optionally chain extenders, wherein the nitroalcohol compound is of formula I, wherein R, R, and Z are as defined herein. 

Nitrofunctional polyurethane dispersions for binder compositions

Provided is a binder composition and its use in aqueous based paints and coatings and other applications. The binder composition comprises: (a) a copolymer formed from one or more esters or amides of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, or their mixtures, together with a monomer unit of formula I, wherein R, R1 R2, R3, R4, and X are as defined above; and (b) water, wherein the binder composition is an aqueous emulsion.

Waterborne two component polyurethane coating compositions comprising alicyclic rigid polyols

The present invention provides compositions that enable excellent early hardness development in coating applications, the compositions comprising a blend of one or more acrylic emulsion copolymer, pA, having a Tg of 20&#xb0; C. or higher, and one or more acrylic emulsion copolymer, pB, having a Tg at least 15&#xb0; C. lower than that of pA, together with one or more additive chosen from a coalescent having a normal boiling point no greater than 300&#xb0; C., a naturally derived plasticizer, and mixtures thereof. The compositions may be ambient curable.

The present invention relates to a stable aqueous dispersion of thermoplastic polymer particles imbibed with a thermosettable compound. The polymer particles are characterized by having a sufficient concentration of anti-agglomerating functional groups to stabilize the latex against agglomeration. The dispersion is useful as one part of a two-pack formulation.

The present invention provides compositions that enable excellent early hardness development in coating applications, the compositions comprising a blend of one or more copolymer, pA, having a Tg of 20&#xb0; C. or higher, and one or more polyurethane copolymer in aqueous dispersion, pB, together with one or more additive chosen from a coalescent having a normal boiling point of from 150&#xb0; C. to no greater than 300&#xb0; C., a naturally derived plasticizer, and mixtures thereof. The polyurethane copolymer comprises at least 40 wt. %, based on the weight of polyurethane solids, of: (i) a first polyol having a molecular weight of at least 850, wherein the first polyol is a polyether polyol, or (ii) a second polyol chosen from a polyester, a polycaprolactam, a polycarbonate and a combination thereof, wherein the second polyol has a molecular weight of at least 1,500, or (iii) a combination of one or more first polyol and one or more second polyol. The compositions may be ambient curable.

Aqueous compositions comprising a blend of emulsion vinyl copolymer and polyurethane dispersion

An aqueous inkjet ink composition suitable for printing on a hydrophobic surface such as a vinyl surface including an aqueous vehicle, a self-dispersed pigment, a silicone-containing surfactant and an aqueous emulsion polymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of from &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. to 150&#xb0; C.
