A catalytic convertor comprising a substrate body () arranged within the catalytic convertor such that a principal flow of fluid through the catalytic convertor flows along a surface () of the substrate body, wherein said surface () has a plurality of openings () to micro-channels that extend away from said surface (); and at least a portion of the surface () of the substrate body () comprises a catalytically active material, wherein the substrate body () is in the form of: a pellet; a sheet; solid elongate bodies; solid rods; a solid body having a plurality of bores; a non-tubular elongate body; a non-hollow body; a sheet curved in the form or a spiral; or a combination thereof.

A catalytic converter substrate comprising a plurality of micro-structured hollow ceramic tubes, each tube having an inside surface and an outside surface, the inside surface having openings to micro-channels distributed radially throughout the tube cross-section, the micro-channels extending from the openings in the inside surface towards the outside surface.

The present invention relates to method for forming a porous ceramic material, the method comprising the steps of: providing a suspension of polymer-coated ceramic particles in a first solvent; contacting the suspension with a second solvent, whereby a ceramic material precursor is formed from the polymer and ceramic particles, heating the ceramic material precursor to at least partially decompose the polymer within the precursor into solid deposits, and then sintering the ceramic material precursor to form a porous ceramic material.
