A vehicle climate system includes a blower and a controller. The controller is configured to, responsive to input of a particular user selected climate setting, operate the blower with an initial power having a predetermined value corresponding to the climate setting provided that cabin temperature is outside a predetermined range. The controller is also configured to operate the blower with an initial power having a value less than the predetermined value provided that the cabin temperature is within the predetermined range.

A vehicular air-handling system includes a blower assembly for a vehicle having a fan and a return-air baffle operable between a fresh-air position. The fan is in communication with a fresh-air duct and a recirculating position and the fan is at least partially in communication with a recirculating duct. A noise-attenuating end of the recirculating duct is positioned below an instrument panel of the vehicle and oriented substantially perpendicular to a portion of a floor below the instrument panel, wherein noise from the fan drawing air through the recirculating duct is directed into the floor below the instrument panel.

A noise tone occurring at a blade passing frequency in a blower for an automotive HVAC system is suppressed. The blower includes a centrifugal fan and a scroll body disposed around the fan. An outlet extends from the scroll body to conduct an air flow from a cutoff point of the scroll body. An inlet is coupled to the scroll body defining an inlet throat comprising an arcuate ring extending between a base and an annular end coaxially disposed over the fan. A partial-perimeter wall extends upstream from the arcuate ring having a height between about 4% and about 6.5% of an inner diameter of the annular end. The wall spans a perimeter portion of the circumference of the throat between about 120&#xb0; and about 180&#xb0;. As a result, noise at the blade passing frequency is suppressed without any significant reduction in air flow.

Suppression of blade passing frequency tone in automotive air handling system

A blower for an HVAC system of a motor vehicle. A fan is supplied with airflow by a duct having a bend adjacent to the fan that causes a low-pressure region at a face of the fan. A baffle is located immediately adjacent to the fan face and collocated with at least a portion of the low-pressure region to impede airflow through the face of the fan at that location. The baffle acts to reduce unwanted low frequency noise and improves the mechanical efficiency of the fan. The baffle covers a circular segment of the fan face and may have sound-suppressing features, such as ridges formed on at least one surfaces.

The housing includes a wall having a seal surface. The seal surface is spaced outwardly from an inner surface of the wall.
