A receiver and a receiving method of the receiver such that monolithic integration of multiple receiving channels can be implemented. The receiver includes a zero intermediate frequency channel, performing in-phase/quadrature (IQ) down conversion on a radio frequency signal at a first frequency band using a frequency division or frequency multiplication signal of a first signal, and a superheterodyne channel, performing down conversion on a radio frequency signal at a second frequency band using the frequency division or frequency multiplication signal of the first signal, where the first frequency band is different from the second frequency band. The zero intermediate frequency channel and the superheterodyne channel use a same oscillation signal or a same frequency division or frequency multiplication signal of the oscillation signal, thereby monolithic integration of multiple receiving channels can be implemented.

A branch line coupler and active antenna system are provided. In an embodiment, the branch line coupler comprises four resonators. The four resonators are formed by a body and a grounded element. A resonator comprises a capacitor element and an inductor element. A first portion of the capacitor element comprises at least a portion of the body and a second portion comprises at least a portion of the grounded element. The inductor element is connected to the capacitor element in parallel. The inductor element comprises at least a portion of the body and extends to the grounded element. The first and second resonators are coupled by a first coupling, the second resonator and the third resonator are coupled by a second coupling, the third resonator and the fourth resonator are coupled by a second third coupling, and the fourth resonator and the first resonator are coupled by a fourth coupling.

An apparatus of a base station can include an antenna array comprising a plurality of antenna elements, and processing circuitry coupled to the antenna array. The processing circuitry is configured to perform operations including generating a plurality of sub-carrier signals using a carrier signal. A sub-carrier pattern formed from a subset of the plurality of sub-carrier signals is selected. Each signal in the subset of sub-carrier signals corresponds to a different antenna element in a subset of the plurality of antenna elements. The sub-carrier signals are transmitted using the subset of antenna elements. Each of the sub-carrier signals is transmitted with a transmission power corresponding to a transmission weight of a plurality of transmission weights. During the transmitting, the sub-carrier pattern is transitioned throughout the antenna array to adjust the transmission power for each of the sub-carrier signals in the sub-carrier pattern.

Frequency division multiple antenna distribution

Using High-beam and low-beam transmission signals that have different antenna tilts, different beam-widths, and different polarizations than one another may provide performance advantages in wireless networks. The high-beam transmission signal and the low-beam transmission signal may have orthogonal polarizations. For example, the high-beam transmission signal and the low-beam transmission signal may be linearly polarized signals having different electromagnetic field (E-field) polarization angles with respect to the y-axis, e.g., +/&#x2212;forty-five degrees with respect to a vertically polarized wave. As another example, the high-beam transmission signal may be a vertically polarized signal, and the low-beam transmission signal may be a horizontally polarized signal, or vice-versa. In addition to having orthogonal polarizations, the low-beam transmission signal may have a greater antenna beam down-tilt angle, and a wider beam-width than the high-beam transmission signal.

A method for operating a transmit-receive point (TRP) includes generating a different spatial domain to time domain transform (STT) symbol for each antenna element in an antenna array, and transmitting the STT symbols using the antenna array to sweep a beam along a first plane in the time domain.

A receiver and a receiving method of the receiver such that monolithic integration of multiple receiving channels can be implemented. A method for operating a communications controller in a wireless communications system includes scheduling a pair of user equipments (UE) located in different ones of a plurality of split beams using an appropriate code pair that produces the plurality of split beams for multi-user multiple-input multiple output (MU-MIMO) mode transmission, and transmitting data packets to the pair of UEs in accordance with the appropriate code pair.

Embodiments are provided for cross-polarized antennas design with different down tilt angles that support versatile functionality, such as for MIMO or beamforming. An embodiment antenna circuit comprises a baseband signal processor, a pair of RF transmitters coupled to the baseband signal processor, a pair of PAs coupled to the RF transmitters, a 90&#xb0;/180&#xb0; hybrid coupler coupled to the RF transmitters, a pair of duplexers and two antennas coupled to the PAs. The two antennas are down tilted at different down tilt angles. A pair of signals is generated using the baseband signal processor, transmitted by the RF transmitters, and amplified using the PAs. Additionally, a 90&#xb0; or 180&#xb0; phase difference is introduced into the signals using the 90&#xb0;/180&#xb0; hybrid coupler. After the amplifying and introducing the phase difference, the signals are polarized at two different polarizations and down tilted at different down tilt angles using the two antennas.

Apparatus and methods for cross-polarized tilt antennas

A frequency division multiple antenna distribution includes dividing up a carrier signal between a number of frequencies to create a plurality of sub-carrier signals. Each of the sub-carrier signals is at a different frequency. Each sub-carrier signal is transmitted from a different antenna element of a sub-array of antenna elements to create a sub-array transmission pattern of sub-carrier signals. The sub-array transmission pattern is shifted through a plurality of sub-arrays of an antenna array for different sub-carriers.

An elliptic combiner circuit filters a first and second signal in a first and second frequency band. A first resonator is coupled to a first input via a first capacitor and a second input via a second capacitor. A second resonator is coupled to a first and second signal path, coupled to the first and second input, via a third and a fourth capacitor. A first inductor is coupled between the first and third capacitors, and between the second and fourth capacitors. A third resonator is coupled to the first and second signal paths via a fifth, sixth, and seventh capacitors. A fourth resonator is coupled to the first signal path and a terminated port via an eighth, ninth and tenth capacitors. A second inductor is coupled between the fifth and eighth capacitors, and between the seventh and tenth capacitors. An output outputs the first and second signals.

Elliptic directional filters for a combiner circuit

A RF distribution network for split beam antennas is disclosed. The split beam antennas may include four-column cross-polarized user specific tilt antennas implemented in a 4T4R or 4T8R system. A RF distribution network may provide transmit signals from transmitters to antennas while also providing receive signals from the antennas. A RF distribution network may include 180&#xb0; 6.9 dB combiners coupled to the antennas and also coupled 90&#xb0; hybrids. A 180&#xb0; 6.9 dB combiner may include a transmission network with transmission lines in a 4T4R system. Alternatively, a 180&#xb0; 6.9 dB combiner may include a transmission network with transmit and receive filters in a 4T8R system. The transmission network couples the transmit filter and two filters by at least three &#x3bb;/4 transmission lines. A transmission network provides isolation between two receive signal paths and, at the same time, provides power splitting of transmitter power to two duplexed transmit signal paths.
