A vascular closure device includes a vessel locating device, a sealant delivery device, a detachable sealing tip, and a suture. The vessel locating device includes an expandable portion configured to extend through and temporarily seal a vessel puncture from within a vessel. The sealant delivery device is configured to deliver a first volume of flowable sealant to the vessel puncture along an exterior of the vessel. The detachable sealing tip is carried at a distal end of the vessel locating device. The suture is connected to and extends proximally from the detachable sealing tip. The detachable sealing tip is configured for release within the first volume of flowable sealant upon withdrawal of the vessel locating device through the first volume of flowable sealant. The suture is anchored at a location proximal of the detachable sealing tip.

A tissue puncture locator device that includes an expandable member, a deformable membrane, and an actuator. The expandable member is movable between an unexpanded position and an expanded position. The deformable membrane extends around at least a portion of the expandable member. The membrane has a stress relief portion. The actuator is operable to move the expandable member between the unexpanded and expanded positions.

A tissue puncture closure device includes a carrier tube and a sealing plug. The carrier tube includes a distal end configured for insertion into the tissue puncture. The sealing plug is positioned in the carrier tube and arranged for ejection from the distal end of the carrier tube into the tissue puncture. The sealing plug includes a first collagen portion having a first cross-linked chemical structure, and a second collagen portion positioned proximal of the first collagen portion in the carrier tube.
