A coating composition comprising: a) a first expandable graphite compound having a mean particle size in the range of from 300 microns to 1000 microns; b) a second expandable graphite compound having a mean particle size in the range of from 0.5 microns to 250 microns; c) a binder comprising: i) a thermoplastic compound and ii) a thermoset compound; d) a catalyst; and e) a blowing agent, is disclosed.

Coating composition

A diesel fuel and additive mixture is useful for reducing particulate matter emissions while improving or at least not aggravating oxidative stability during combustion. The additive includes at least one compound having a general formula selected from the group consisting of: andcombinations thereof, wherein: R is a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon having from about 1 to about 6 carbons. The additive is effective in diesel at concentrations as low as from about 50 to about 1000 ppm by weight.

Methods herein include mixing at least one polyester resin with at least one solvent to form a resin mixture, adding water to cause phase inversion and form a polyester latex, adding at least one buffering agent to the phase inverted mixture to stabilize the phase inverted mixture, and subsequent to the buffering agent addition, substantially removing the at least one solvent from the phase inverted mixture.

A washing process using one or more ionic liquids (ILs) as a washing aid agent for toners, including toners produced using such ILs, such as, low melt toners, is provided. ILs are environmentally sound, green solvents that act to swell toner particle surfaces so that surface absorbed and adsorbed pollutants, such as, surfactants and other manufacturing reactants, can be effectively removed. The resulting toners have good charging, charge maintenance and RH sensitivity.

In embodiments, a suitable process includes adding a washing aid agent to toner particles at the time of washing the toner particles prior to their drying and recover. The washing aid agent assist in the removal of ionic species, including surfactants and ions that are part of the emulsion aggregation process, from the resulting toner particles. Utilization of the washing aid agent produces toner particles having improved charging characteristics.

The continuous process for manufacturing toners disclosed herein includes continuously feeding components of a toner composition into a feed section of a screw extruder at a controlled rate. The continuous process for manufacturing toners may include feeding the components of a toner composition into the feed section of a screw extruder without performing an external or secondary dispersion step. That is to say, the components of the toner composition may be fed directly into the extruder without using dispersions of individual components as used in batch processes. Rather, the toner components are added to the extruder in dry form, melt-mixed, and may be dispersed in aqueous form in the extruder. The process may produce micron-sized toner particles, thus no further size reduction may be necessary.

The present teachings describe a process for mixing comprising obtaining a dispersion of solid particles and an organic solvent wherein the dispersion comprises a particulate solid content of from about 0.5 weight percent to about 10 weight percent. The dispersion is mixed at a resonant frequency of the mixing system.

Latex processes

Processes for producing toners are provided. The processes include emulsion aggregation processes, whereby a reactive coalescent is utilized in the coalescence step to coalesce aggregated particles, thereby forming toner particles. The resulting toners may be highly pigmented, and may possess low melt characteristics.

Toner compositions and processes

The present disclosure provides processes for reducing the particle size of latex resins and toners produced with such resins. In embodiments, a carboxylic acid may be added to materials utilized to produce a latex and reduce the particle size of the resulting latex particles and toner particles. In accordance with the present disclosure, one may be able to utilize materials for the production of latex resins and toners which may otherwise produce particles that are too large in the absence of the carboxylic acid.

Toner compositions

A method of making toner particles, including mixing at least one emulsion of at least one resin, a colorant, an optional wax, and optional additives to form a slurry; heating the slurry to form aggregated particles in the slurry; freezing aggregation of the particles with a buffer solution; and heating the aggregated particles in the slurry to coalesce the particles into toner particles.

Method for controlling a toner preparation process

A process for making toner particles is provided. In embodiments, a suitable process includes melt mixing a resin in the absence of an organic solvent, optionally adding a surfactant to the resin, adding to the resin at least one colorant and other optional toner additives, adding to the resin a basic agent and water to form a mixture, and subjecting the mixture to acoustic mixing at a suitable frequency to form to form an emulsion. A phase inversion may then be performed to create a phase inversed emulsion including a disperse phase comprising molten resin and the optional ingredients of the toner composition, at which time toner-sized droplets may be solidified from the disperse phase into toner particles, which can be recovered for use.
