Hydrogen-producing assemblies, fuel cell systems including the same, methods of producing hydrogen gas, and methods of powering an energy-consuming device. Hydrogen-producing assemblies may include a monolithic body that defines at least a reforming conduit, and in some embodiments a plurality of reforming conduits, in which a feed stream is catalyzed into a reformate gas stream containing hydrogen gas, and a burner conduit, in which a fuel-air stream is combusted. The monolithic body is constructed to conduct heat generated by the exothermic reaction of the combustion from the burner conduit to the reformer conduit. In some hydrogen-producing assemblies, the monolithic body further defines a vaporizing conduit, in which liquid portions of the feed stream are vaporized prior to being delivered to the reformer conduit, and the monolithic body may be constructed to conduct heat from the burner conduit to the vaporizing conduit.

Fuel processing systems with thermally integrated componentry

The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods for actively controlling the steam-to-carbon ratio in hydrogen-producing fuel processing systems that include a feedstock delivery system. The feedstock delivery system supplies a combined feedstock stream including steam and carbon-containing feedstock to a hydrogen-producing region, which produces a mixed gas stream including hydrogen gas as a majority component therefrom. The systems and methods may include measuring a thermodynamic property of a steam stream, a carbon-containing feedstock stream, and/or the combined feedstock stream and controlling the flow rate and/or pressure of a water stream, the steam stream, and/or the carbon-containing feedstock stream based on a desired steam-to-carbon ratio in the combined feedstock stream and/or a desired flow rate of the mixed gas stream and may include feedforward and/or feedback control strategies.

Systems and methods for actively controlling steam-to-carbon ratio in hydrogen-producing fuel processing systems

The invention relates to a reactor comprising two reaction zones and processes for the production of alkenes from alkanes. A first reaction zone includes a combustion catalyst, and a second reaction zone comprises a heating zone in thermal contact with the first reaction zone. One process comprises generating heat and an effluent by the combustion of a fuel with oxygen in the first reaction zone; passing an alkane feed through the heating zone of the second reaction zone such that the alkane feed absorbs a sufficient amount of the heat generated in the first reaction zone to initiate the conversion of alkanes to alkenes in the second reaction zone. In other embodiments, the effluent comprises oxygen, and the second reaction zone excludes a catalyst; alternatively, the effluent is substantially free of oxygen, and the second reaction zone comprises a supplemental oxygen feed and may or may not include a catalyst.

Reactor and process for converting alkanes to alkenes

Catalysts and methods useful for the production of olefins from alkanes via oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) comprise at least one base metal and copper with an optional promoter. The catalyst preferably comprises a base metal and a copper-modified Groups 8, 9, or 10 metal on a support comprising alumina, zirconia, or mixtures thereof. Copper is preferably present in an amount of from about 0.1 to about 1.0 percent by weight of the total catalyst weight. The base metal preferably comprises manganese, chromium, gold, their corresponding oxides, or combinations thereof. The optional promoter preferably comprises platinum, palladium, iridium, rhodium, ruthenium, or any combinations thereof.

Copper modified catalysts for oxidative dehydrogenation

A process and catalyst are disclosed for reducing coking in hydrocarbon processing reactions. The preferred embodiments employ a sulfur-containing material such as hydrogen sulfide to reduce catalyst susceptibility to deactivation from carbon deposits formed during processing.

Sulfided catalysts for improved performance in hydrocarbon processing

A method for the recovery of rhodium from spent supported catalysts. In one embodiment, a method for recovering rhodium from a host material includes roasting the host material in air at a temperature sufficient to convert at least a portion of rhodium to RhO, leaching the host material in a solution with a leaching constituent which is reactive with RhOto form a first intermediate species, reacting the first intermediate species in a solution with an acidifying constituent or complexing agent to form a second intermediate species, and purifying the second intermediate species. Preferably, the roasting temperature is approximately from 600&#xb0; C. to 800&#xb0; C. for 0.5 to 10 hours. In some embodiments, the host material is ground to particles in the range of 0.1 to 10 mm.

Recover and recycle rhodium from spent partial oxidation catalysts

A new family of oxidative dehydrogenation catalysts having MCrAlY supports can be used in the production of olefins. Olefins are produced by heating a feed stream comprising at least an alkane and an oxidant to a temperature between 25&deg; C. and 800&deg; C.; contacting the feed stream with a catalyst comprising an MCrAlY structure and, optionally, a Group VIII promoter metal coating, wherein M is a base metal, or combination of base metals; and maintaining a contact time of the alkane with the catalyst of less than 200 milliseconds under conditions sufficient to achieve oxidative dehydrogenation of the alkane. M may comprise a metal selected from the group consisting of Group IB-VIIB metals, Group IIIA-VA metals, lanthanide metals, iron, cobalt, nickel, and combinations thereof. More particularly, M may comprise a metal selected from the group consisting Tb, Sm, Pr, Fe, Ni, Co, and combinations thereof.

MCrAlY supported catalysts for oxidative dehydrogenation of alkanes

A method for the recovery of rhodium from spent supported catalysts.
