A system configured to perform scalable video encoding is provided. The system includes a memory; and a processing unit, wherein the processing unit is configured to: receive inter-layer data and a current picture, wherein the current picture has a base layer; upsample the inter-layer data to generate residual data and reconstruction data, wherein the inter-layer data includes a base mode flag; and encode the current picture to an enhanced layer using the upsampled inter-layer data based on a block type of the base layer and the base mode flag.

Bandwidth saving architecture for scalable video coding

A system and method for scalable video coding that includes base layer having lower resolution encoding, enhanced layer having higher resolution encoding and the data transferring between two layers. The system and method provides several methods to reduce bandwidth of inter-layer transfers while at the same time reducing memory requirements. Due to less memory access, the system clock frequency can be lowered so that system power consumption is lowered as well. The system avoids having prediction data from base layer to enhanced layer to be up-sampled for matching resolution in the enhanced layer as transferring up-sampled data can impose a big burden on memory bandwidth.

Responsive to indexing a predefined number of data records associated with the assigned search granularity class, a search based on the received search request is performed.

A system and method for providing video compression that includes encoding using an encoding engine a YUV stream wherein Y, U and V color values are encoded in parallel and patching together the Y, U and V color streams to form a compressed YUV output stream. The encoding engine further includes encoding each color value of the YUV stream in parallel using parallel encoding engines and a control engine for controlling operation all of the encoding engines in parallel. The YUV stream has an average bits per pixel value that varies from a first value to a second value that is double the first value. The encoding engine includes encoding the YUV stream in generally the same amount of time regardless of the average bits per pixel value.

System for video compression

A processing apparatus is provided that includes an encoder configured to encode current frames of video data using previously encoded reference frames and perform motion searches within a search window about each of a plurality of co-located portions of a reference frame. The processing apparatus also includes a processor configured to determine, prior to performing the motion searches, which locations of the reference frame to reload the search window according to a threshold number of search window reloads using predicted motions of portions of the reference frame corresponding to each of the locations. The processor is also configured to cause the encoder to reload the search window at the determined locations of the reference frame and, for each of the remaining locations of the reference frame, slide the search window in a first direction indicated by the location of the next co-located portion of the reference frame.

This invention describes a collagen fiber reconstituted rawhide useful in the production of pet chews, and a method for making the same. Beginning materials include animal skins with hair, depilated limed splits and leftovers from the manufacture of rawhide pet chews. The materials are pretreated, ground, subjected to acid treatment to swell and separate the collagen fibers that comprise the animal hide, further ground into pulp, vacuum filtered, mixed with a dehydration agent that chemically shrinks the expanded fibers, drained, formed and dried into sheet and/or exposed to a cross-linking agent to increase the adhesive strength of the end product. Edible materials, including meats, may be added to the solution prior to draining, to enhance the nutritional value and palatability of the final product, and the reconstituted rawhide sheets may be bleached for appearance. The described method produces rawhide pet chews at lower cost, and of greater diversity and utility, compared with current methods of production.

The present invention provides a power measurement apparatus and method for a pulsed terahertz quantum-cascade laser (THz QCL). The apparatus includes a light source part, a light path part, and a detection part. Terahertz light emitted by a THz QCL reaches a terahertz quantum-well photodetector (THz QWP) through the measurement apparatus, and is absorbed to generate a corresponding current signal. A signal processing circuit extracts a voltage signal from the current signal, amplifies the voltage signal, and inputs the amplified voltage signal to an oscilloscope for reading and displaying. According to a responsivity of the THz QWP at a lasing frequency of the laser, the measurement of the output power of the pulsed THz QCL is acquired. The present invention avoids integration estimation when a thermal detector is used to measure output power of a THz QCL in a pulse operating mode, and can directly acquire the power value of a pulsed output from the laser according to the amplitude of the detector responding to the pulsed terahertz light.

A method for forming a variable capacitor includes providing a semiconductor substrate of a first conductivity type and forming an active region of a second conductivity type within the substrate. The method forms a first dielectric layer overlying the active region. The method provides a conductive gate layer over the first dielectric layer and selectively patterns the conductive gate layer to form a plurality of holes in the conductive gate layer. A perimeter of the holes and a spacing between a first and a second holes are selective to provide a high quality factor (Q) of the capacitor. The method implants impurities of the second conductivity type into the active region through the plurality of holes in the conductive layer. The method also includes providing a second dielectric layer and patterning the second dielectric layer to form contacts to the active region and the gate.

A method for manufacturing a capacitor on an integrated circuit includes providing an inter-metal dielectric layer on a substrate, a bottom layer having a first and second portions, a first insulating layer having via plug openings on the bottom layer, and via plugs disposed in the via plug openings. The via plugs include a first and second via plugs and are electrically coupled to the first portion of the bottom layer. The method further includes providing a capacitor layer having a first barrier metal layer coupled to the first via plug. The capacitor layer also has a capacitor dielectric layer overlying the first barrier metal layer and a second barrier metal overlying the capacitor dielectric layer. The method further includes defining a first and second capacitor layer portions. The first capacitor layer portion has two opposite sides and spacers disposed on their surface.

Method and system for manufacturing copper-based capacitor

A method of fabricating an integrated inductor device includes providing a silicon substrate and forming a thickness of an insulating layer overlying the silicon substrate. The insulating layer includes a dummy structure within a portion of the thickness. The method includes forming an inductor having a first portion and a second portion. The first portion includes a spiral coil of conductor lines. The method also includes exposing the dummy structure by forming an opening in the insulating layer and removing the dummy structure to form a cavity underlying the inductor to reduce a dielectric constant and to increase a Q value of the inductor. The method includes using aluminum or copper for the dummy structures. The method includes dry etching the insulator and wet etching the dummy structure. The method also includes forming the inductors using aluminum or copper.

An integrated circuit device and methods of producing such device. The device has a substrate, e.g., silicon. An insulating layer is formed overlying the substrate. A copper metal layer is overlying the insulating layer. The device also has an etch stop layer overlying the copper metal layer and an interlayer dielectric material overlying the etch stop layer. The interlayer dielectric material includes an upper surface. A plurality of via openings are defined within a region of the interlayer dielectric layer from the upper surface through the etch stop layer to the copper metal layer. The device has a copper fill material within each of the plurality of via openings to define a plurality of copper structure extending from the upper surface through the etch stop layer to the copper metal layer. A first barrier metal layer is overlying each of the plurality of copper structures to define a first electrode of a capacitor structure. An insulating layer is overlying the first barrier metal layer to define an insulating layer for the capacitor structure. The device has a second barrier metal layer overlying the insulating layer to define the second electrode of the capacitor structure.
