A catheter system may include a needle assembly coupled to a catheter adapter. The needle assembly may include a housing, an introducer needle, a proximal opening, a distal opening, and a needle tip shield feature. A distal tip of the introducer needle may be configured to be proximally withdrawn from a first position to a second position in which a bump feature of the introducer needle contacts and is prevented from moving through the proximal opening. In response to withdrawal of the distal tip proximally from the second position to a third position, the housing may move proximally, and the needle tip shield feature may be released to block the distal opening. The needle tip shield feature may not contact the introducer needle when the distal tip moves proximally from the first position to the second position and from the second position to the third position.

Catheter system facilitating reduced drag force

A sensor for detecting infiltration at a catheter infusion site may include a first elongate sensor member couplable to a first location proximate the catheter infusion site, and a second elongate sensor member couplable to a second location proximate the catheter infusion site. The first elongate sensor member may include a first marking and the second elongate sensor member may include a second marking. The first elongate sensor member may slidably couple with and translate relative to the second elongate sensor. The first and second markings may indicate a range of relative positions between the first and second elongate sensor members as the first and second elongate sensor members translate relative to each other. At least one relative position within a range of relative positions between the first and second elongate sensor members may be indicative of infiltration at the catheter infusion site.

Sensor for detecting tissue infiltration

A primer may be used with IV catheter systems. The primer may be positioned along the tubing of an extension set such that the primer divides the IV catheter system into a downstream portion and an upstream portion. The primer may vent air from both the upstream and downstream portions to allow blood to flow up to the primer while also allowing priming solution to flow down to the primer. As a result, the catheter may be inserted into the patient's vasculature without first priming the catheter. Once the air has been vented from the upstream and downstream portions of the IV catheter system, the primer may be actuated to open a fluid pathway through the primer. With the fluid pathway opened, the priming solution may commence flowing towards the patient's vasculature thereby flushing the blood from the IV catheter system.

Primer for intravenous catheter systems

A catheter assembly may include a catheter adapter, which may include a distal end, a proximal end, a lumen extending between the distal end and the proximal end, and a side port. A septum may be disposed within the lumen of the catheter assembly. The side port may include a lumen in fluid communication with the lumen of the catheter adapter. The lumen of the side port may be distally-facing, which may facilitate flushing of fluid trapped proximate a distal face of the septum. The catheter assembly may include a catheter secured within the catheter adapter and extending distally from the catheter adapter.

Reduced dead space catheter adapter

A catheter system may include a needle assembly coupled to a catheter adapter. The needle assembly may include a housing, an introducer needle, a proximal opening, a distal opening, and a needle tip shield feature. A distal tip of the introducer needle may be configured to be proximally withdrawn from a first position to a second position in which a bump feature of the introducer needle contacts and is prevented from moving through the proximal opening. In response to withdrawal of the distal tip proximally from the second position to a third position, the housing may move proximally, and the needle tip shield feature may be released to block the distal opening. The needle tip shield feature may not contact the introducer needle when the distal tip moves proximally from the first position to the second position and from the second position to the third position, which may reduce a friction-based drag force on the introducer needle.

An electrochemical separation system may be modular and may include at least a first modular unit and a second modular unit. Each modular unit may include a cell stack and a frame. The frame may include a manifold system. A flow distribution system in the frame may enhance current efficiency. Spacers positioned between modular units may also enhance current efficiency of the system.

Electrochemical separation devices are configured for lower energy consumption. Techniques for reducing shadow effect may involve providing distance between a spacer screen and an adjacent ion-selective membrane. A spacer having a screen that is thin relative to a surrounding frame may be used. Mild pressure may also be applied to a compartment to promote distance between a spacer screen and an adjacent ion-selective membrane.

Systems and techniques for electrodialysis

An ultraviolet reactor for treating a fluid. The reactor includes a vessel having an inlet for receiving fluid and an outlet for discharging fluid. The reactor further includes an ultraviolet light source and baffle plates. The baffle plates include holes arranged in a predetermined pattern for providing plug flow in areas in the reactor near the ultraviolet light source.
