A buffer status reporting scheme for a terminal () wishing to transmit data simultaneously in multiple RATs of a wireless communication network, which enables the co-ordination of multiple base stations () of different RATs (e.g. LTE eNB, UMTS base station, WiFi access point, etc.) with the assistance of the terminal () in order to achieve efficient radio resource scheduling for multi-RAT multi-flow aggregation in uplink. A radio bearer is configured for multi-RAT multi-flow aggregation by the network, and multiple logical channel IDs are assigned to this RB that may be associated with different RATs. Logical channels associated with a certain RAT (or a given set of RATs) may be grouped into one logical channel group for radio resource scheduling reason. The terminal () performs buffer status reporting, according to the configuration, on all involved RATs and sends reports/indications to one or more involved base stations ().

Wireless communication in multi-rat system

A wireless communication method wherein: a terminal () transmits first and second data streams to a network; wherein the first data stream is associated with both a first cell and a second cell of a plurality of cells () serving the terminal, and the second data stream is associated with the second cell; and the terminal () transmits at least one signalling message including first information relating to data to be sent in the first data stream and/or second information relating to data to be sent in the second data stream to at least one of the first cell and the second cell based on predetermined rules corresponding to association between cells and data streams.

Buffer status reporting in small cell networks

A wireless communication system includes a virtual terminal formed from one or more independent devices, a terminal management entity for managing the virtual terminal. The devices may be independent physical devices (smartphones, tablet computers), virtual machines/modules of physical devices, or a combination of both. The virtual terminal and terminal management entity communicate via a base station and/or access point. The terminal management entity creates a service ID for a service to be provided to the virtual terminal, the service ID being shared by the one or more independent devices, each having its own device ID. The TME forms an association of the virtual terminal with the network through use of a multi-homing transport protocol such as SCTP, the association supporting the service by using the service ID. For service delivery, paging and handover purposes the devices of the virtual terminal are treated as a single entity by the TME.

Mobility support for virtual terminals

A method of implementing multiple radio access technologies, RATs, by a multi-RAT wireless communication network and a wireless communication apparatus. The multi-RAT wireless communication network transmits, to the wireless communication apparatus, a signal relating to a second RAT using a first RAT. The wireless communication apparatus uses a first radio communication module configured to support the first RAT to receive the signal, and activates a second radio communication module configured to support the second RAT from a power saving in order to perform a function. The first RAT generally has lower power consumption in use at the wireless communication apparatus than that of the second RAT.

A method and apparatus for analyzing cause of link failure, includes: receiving, by a base station where the user equipment is present when a link failure is observed by the user equipment, identification information transmitted by other base stations or the user equipment, the identification information including: identification associated with the user equipment and/or identification of the user equipment in the base station; and determining, by the base station when it determines that the identification information is stored in the base station, that the link failure is resulted from a handover preparation failure.

Method and apparatus for analyzing cause of link failure

A scheme for the co-ordination of multiple base stations of different RATs (radio access technologies), such as a LTE eNB, UMTS base station, and WiFi access point with the assistance of the terminals in order to achieve efficient radio resource scheduling for multi-RAT multi-flow aggregation in the downlink. At the network side, multi-RAT flows (RB) share the same PDCP Entity, (PDCP Entity) while each has independent RLC/MAC (RAT1 RLC Entity, RAT2 RLC Entity). The terminal (UE) performs necessary measurements on all involved RATs, depending on the requirements of different RATs, and sends measurement reports/indication to all involved base stations. Based on the measurement report as well as pre-defined rules/policy, a decision is made on which RAT should be used for next DL transmission or next period of DL transmission.

Wireless communication in multi-RAT system

The invention provides for association of data streams (and/or logical channels) with individual carriers (cells), and independent buffer status reporting per carrier for terminals with more than one uplink carrier configured. In a 'Small Cell' scenario for 3GPP LTE, a terminal may be simultaneously served by a macro cell and one or more small cells. These may operate at different frequencies, have different traffic loading and support different QoS (Quality of Service). The invention allows independent control of traffic on the uplinks to the macro cell and the small cells, which can be used to optimize the user experience in relation to the available resources at any given time/location, and allows particular data to be routed via particular cells.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a UE context identification method, UE and a base station. The identification method includes: obtaining a first terminal identity of the UE by the first base station, wherein the first terminal identity is transmitted by the UE to a network side after connection failure; finding a second terminal identity corresponding to the second base station in a context of the UE according to the first terminal identity; and transmitting to the second base station a handover report containing the second terminal identity, so that the second base station finds the context of the UE according to the second terminal identity. With the embodiments of the present disclosure, it is ensured that the base station is able to identify a context of the UE.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method for negotiating inter-eNB functions, an apparatus and system therefor. The method includes: transmitting, by an eNB, a backhaul type of the eNB, and/or a backhaul type of at least one neighboring eNB of the eNB, to another eNB negotiating inter-eNB functions with the eNB, so that the other eNB negotiates with the eNB for inter-eNB functions. With the method and apparatus of the embodiments of the present disclosure, the eNBs may be assisted in negotiating inter-eNB functions, thereby providing better services to UEs.

The handover is triggered by any of the following: based on UE's measurement report, the signal quality of a neighbor cell is better than the current serving cell; based on the measurement of the serving mobile relay base station, the signal quality of the link to the UE is worse than a certain threshold; or based on the measurement of the serving mobile relay base station, the signal quality of a neighbor cell is much better than the current donor base station.

A communication system includes a plurality of base stations and a user equipment, wherein the communication link is established between the user equipment and a source base station of the plurality of base stations. A method includes: selecting a target cell and a re-establishment cell of at least one candidate handover base station of the plurality on the basis of a measurement report, the measurement report comprising measurements of attributes of cells of the plurality of base stations for a handover; initiating a handover preparation by transmitting a request from the source base station to the at least one candidate handover base station, wherein the request indicates the target cell and the re-establishment cell; carrying out admission control on the target cell and on the re-establishment cell; initiating the handover by transmitting a handover request acknowledgement from the at least one candidate handover base station to the source base station.
