An imaging apparatus with adjustable imaging plane, the apparatus having mechanical, electronic or optical devices to adjust the position and the orientation of the imaging plane, which successively captures a plurality of images while adjusting the imaging plane, and a method to integrate the captured images to a single high-resolution image by exploration of the mutual information not available in a single image, such as the sub-pixel observations due to the spatial misalignment, thus achieving an image resolution higher than the sensor resolution.

Enhancing image resolution by rotation of image plane

A system for the detection of abnormalities in a medical image of a subject. The system includes an examination bundle, a learning engine, and a detecting engine. The examination bundle includes at least one medical image of the subject from a first modality and at least one medical image of the subject from a second modality. The learning engine is employed for determining the characteristics of abnormalities within the at least one medical image from the first modality and the at least one medical image from the second modality. The detecting engine is employed for detecting abnormalities within at least one of the medical images comprising the examination bundle.

In a digital image registration method, a second digital image is transformed to be more like a first digital image using a modification function, resulting in a modified second digital image. A set of first features of each of the first and modified second digital images is determined. Zones are specified in each of the first and modified second digital images. A set of zonal features, of each of the zones is determined. Compound mutual information is computed from the first and zonal features. The modification function is altered. The transforming, determining, specifying, determining, computing, and altering are iterated until the compound mutual information is maximized.

A method of composing a multimedia slide show. In a preferred embodiment, the method comprises the steps of: selecting a plurality of digital images; encoding each of the plurality of digital images to generate a normal resolution image portion and a high resolution image portion; multiplexing each corresponding normal and high resolution image portion to generate a single high resolution still image; determining a time parameter for each of the high resolution still images; selecting an audio portion for at least one of the plurality of digital images; concatenating the plurality of high resolution still images to generate a video bitstream; generating an audio bitstream by encoding the audio portion; and multiplexing the video bitstream and audio bitstream to generate the multimedia slide show.

System and method to compose a slide show

A method for video filtering of an input video sequence by utilizing joint motion and noise estimation includes the steps of: (a) generating a motion-compensated video sequence from the input video sequence and a plurality of estimated motion fields; (b) spatiotemporally filtering the motion compensated video sequence, thereby producing a filtered, motion-compensated video sequence; (c) estimating a standard deviation from the difference between the input video sequence and the filtered, motion-compensated video sequence, thereby producing an estimated standard deviation; (d) estimating a scale factor from the difference between the input video sequence and the motion compensated video sequence; and (e) iterating through steps (a) to (d) using the scale factor previously obtained from step (d) to generate the motion-compensated video sequence in step (a) and using the estimated standard deviation previously obtained from step (c) to perform the filtering in step (b) until the value of the noise level approaches the unknown noise of the input video sequence, whereby the noise level is then characterized by a finally determined scale factor and standard deviation.

Method and system for video filtering with joint motion and noise estimation

A method for determining motion vectors from one point in one image frame of a scene to corresponding points in at least two other image frames of the scene, wherein the frames are obtained in a capture process utilizing one or more cameras, wherein the method employs an iterative and hierarchical dense motion estimation that computes the geometry-consistent and appearance-consistent motion fields between three images simultaneously by enforcing both a trilinear constraint and a constant-brightness constraint. This method includes the steps of: providing first, second and third images of a scene under perspective projection with unconstrained motion of the camera, wherein points (x',y&#x2032;) and (x&#x2033;,y&#x2033;) in the second and third frames are projections of the same spatial points (x,y) in the first frame; specifying a system of trifocal tensors and optical flow equations that describe point correspondence across the three images; and applying both a geometric constraint of trilinearity and an appearance constraint of constant brightness, thereby utilizing a trilinear constraint and a constant brightness constraint to obtain the pointwise displacement between the three frames simultaneously.

A method of storing a digital image file, includes the steps of: storing a header defined by a standard; storing image data encoded according to the standard after the header; and storing an image tail containing non-standard meta-data at the end of the image data.

A method of automated content-based grouping of digital images without using auxiliary metadata and training data set, comprises the steps of computing a color correlogram from image pixel values for each of the digital images, grouping the color correlograms into groups within a hierarchical structure based on relative similarities of the color correlograms, and assigning the images to the groups based on the hierarchical structure of the color correlograms.

Method and system for automated grouping of images

An event clustering method uses foreground and background segmentation for clustering images from a group into similar events. Initially, each image is divided into a plurality of blocks, thereby providing block-based images. Utilizing a block-by-block comparison, each block-based image is segmented into a plurality of regions comprising at least a foreground and a background. One or more luminosity, color, position or size features are extracted from the regions and the extracted features are utilized to estimate and compare the similarity of the regions comprising the foreground and background in successive images in the group. Then, a measure of the total similarity between successive images is computed, thereby providing image distance between successive images, and event clusters are delimited from the image distances.
