Disclosed is a method of lowering elevated cholesterol plasma levels in a subject. Also disclosed is a method of treating hypercholesterolemia in a subject. The methods comprise administering to the subject in the absence of a cholesterol lowering drug an effective amount of Compound 1 or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

Disclosed are bicyclic aryl compounds of formula (I), that can modulate the activity of the autotaxin (ATX) enzyme. This invention further relates to compounds that are ATX inhibitors, and methods of making and using such compounds in the treatment of demyelination due to injury or disease, as well as for treating proliferative disorders such as cancer.

The present invention provides antibodies specific for Sp35, and methods of using such antibodies as antagonists of endogenous Sp35 function. The invention further provides specific hybridoma and phage library-derived monoclonal antibodies, nucleic acids encoding these antibodies, and vectors and host cells comprising these antibodies. The invention further provides methods of promoting oligodendrocyte survival and myelination in a vertebrate, comprising administering to a vertebrate in need of such treatment an effective amount of an anti-Sp35 antibody.
