Systems and methods presented herein facilitate operation of well-related tools. In certain embodiments, a variety of data (e.g., downhole data and/or surface data) may be collected to enable optimization of operations related to the well-related tools. In certain embodiments, the collected data may be provided as advisory data (e.g., presented to human operators of the well to inform control actions performed by the human operators) and/or used to facilitate automation of downhole processes and/or surface processes (e.g., which may be automatically performed by a computer implemented surface processing system (e.g., a well control system), without intervention from human operators). In certain embodiments, the systems and methods described herein may enhance downhole operations (e.g., milling operations) by improving the efficiency and utilization of data to enable performance optimization and improved resource controls of the downhole operations.

System and methodology for determining appropriate rate of penetration in downhole applications

A method for joining fiber optic cables includes sliding a sleeve over a first fiber optic cable, joining a first set of optical fibers of the first fiber optic cable to a second set of optical fibers of a second fiber optic cable, sliding the sleeve over the first and second fiber optic cables, and joining the sleeve to a first exterior casing of the first fiber optic cable and to a second exterior casing of the second fiber optic cable.

A technique facilitates tracking and assessing a fatigue life of a tubing string utilizing, for example, estimation of cycles to failure when used in a wellbore operation. The technique may comprise initially determining a fatigue life of a tubing string. Additionally, the technique comprises utilizing a sensing device, e.g. a magnetic flux leakage (MFL) device, to monitor the tubing string. When an anomaly, e.g. a new defect, is detected by the sensing device, a new fatigue life of the tubing string is determined based on the change. The new fatigue life may be used to estimate a fatigue life in terms of cycles to failure.

System and methodology to identify milling events and performance using torque-thrust curves

A technique facilitates examination of a tubing string. A sensor is mounted to monitor a pipe for a defect or defects. The sensor outputs data on the defect to a data processing system which identifies the type and severity of the defect. The data processing system also may be used to track the defect to determine changes to the defect during, for example, subsequent uses of the pipe. Based on the evaluation of the defect, recommendations are provided with respect to future use or handling of the pipe.

Pipe damage assessment system and method

A technique facilitates examination of a tubing string which may comprise coiled tubing or other types of pipe. A sensor is positioned to monitor a pipe for a magnetic flux leakage signal indicating a defect in the pipe. The sensor outputs data on the magnetic flux leakage signal to a data processing system. Correlations between magnetic flux leakage signals and fatigue life of the pipe may be accessed by the data processing system and these correlations may be used to automatically predict a fatigue life of the pipe. Based on the determined fatigue life, an operation with respect to the pipe is selected and such operation may comprise continued normal use, repair, or removal from service.

Pipe defect assessment system and method

A technique facilitates prediction of run life. Data relating to a pipe defect is provided to a data processing system for comparison to stored data regarding defects. Additionally, data regarding fatigue life accumulation is stored on the data processing system as it relates to fatigue life of the pipe based on the number of cycles to failure of the pipe without the presence of the defect. The number of cycles experienced by the pipe at the time the defect occurs in the pipe also is determined and provided to the data processing system. The system and methodology further comprise using the data regarding the defect type, the fatigue life accumulation data for the pipe, and the number of cycles experienced by the pipe at the time of the defect to estimate a remaining number of cycles until failure of the pipe.

Fatigue life assessment

A technique facilitates monitoring of pipe, such as coiled tubing. The monitoring may be used to detect conditions which occur within the pipe itself or in components employed along an interior of the pipe. A magnetic sensor system is positioned along an exterior of the pipe, e.g. coiled tubing. During relative movement between the pipe and the magnetic sensor system, the magnetic sensor system monitors for the condition, e.g. change/abnormality, of interest. In some applications, the magnetic sensor system is used to monitor changes in a physical property of the pipe, and/or a component within the pipe, during a succession of operations employing the pipe.

Monitoring pipe conditions

A technique facilitates anomaly recognition and tracking in a variety of components, such as tubular components. The technique comprises sensing for anomalies in the component, and storing detected anomalies in a storage medium. The detected anomalies are matched with stored digital descriptions of anomalies. The stored digital descriptions may be anomalies of similar types and/or anomalies detected on the specific component being tested. The detected anomalies are ranked according to similarities with respect to the stored digital descriptions.

Anomaly recognition system and methodology

A technique provides for stimulating or otherwise treating multiple intervals/zones of a well by controlling flow of treatment fluid via a plurality of flow control devices. The flow control devices are provided with internal profiles and flow through passages. Mechanical darts are designed for engagement with the internal profiles of specific flow control devices, and each mechanical dart may be moved downhole for engagement with and activation of the specific flow control device associated with that mechanical dart.

Completion method for stimulation of multiple intervals

A technique provides for stimulating or otherwise treating multiple intervals/zones of a well by controlling flow of treatment fluid via a plurality of flow control devices. The flow control devices are provided with internal profiles and flow through passages. Hydraulic darts are designed for selective engagement with the internal profiles of specific flow control devices, and each hydraulic dart may be moved downhole for engagement with and activation of a specific flow control device.

A technique utilizes micro-coil which is formed as a composite to enable use at substantial depths and/or with substantial flow rates. The micro-coil is formed as a tubing with a multi-layered tubing wall. The composite tubing wall provides substantial strength and longevity which allows deployment of the micro-coil in a much wider variety of well treatment applications, such as applications having substantial flow rates and/or applications at substantial well depths.
