Methods and systems are provided for controlling an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarm network including receiving, at a control terminal, an operator input defining a plurality of network performance directives, constructing a network control model representing the plurality of network performance directives, decomposing the network control model into a plurality of sub-models, generating, via the control terminal, a distributed UAV control model corresponding to each of the distributed sub-models, transmitting the generated distributed UAV control models to each of a plurality of UAVs of the UAV swarm network, executing, at each of the plurality of UAVs, at least one of the distributed UAV control models, and changing, responsive to the execution of the distributed UAV control models, an operating condition of at least one of the plurality of UAVs to satisfy the network performance directives.

Methods for ultrasonic communications through biological tissue using ultrasonic pulses are disclosed. For example, methods for calculating a forward data generation rate and a forward transmission probability profile for ultrasonic communications through biological material are disclosed. The method may comprise measuring sets interference values corresponding to instants on a communication channel. First and second order moments may be calculated for each instant based on the measured interference values. An outage probability may be calculated for each set and the forward data generation rate and forward transmission probability profile may be calculated based on the outage probability value and other parameters and a threshold transmission rate, a transmission delay threshold, and a residual transmission error rate.

Medium-access control schemes for ultrasonic communications in the body based on second order statistics

A wireless network operating system for communication between a plurality of nodes of a network is provided. The operating system can enable an operator to define a centralized network control problem at a high level, decompose automatically the network control problem into a set of distributed subproblems, each subproblem characterizing a local behavior of a single session or a subset of sessions or a single node or a subset of nodes or a single protocol layer or a subset of protocol layers, to generate in an automated manner a set of solution algorithms, and send the set of solution algorithms to each node for execution at an associated node controller to optimize the parameters of a programmable protocol stack based on local state information at each node. A network device for use at a node in a wireless network, a method of wirelessly communicating between a plurality of nodes in a network, and a method of providing a wireless network operating system are also provided.

Distributed wireless network operating system

A coexistence scheme enables spectrally-efficient and fair spectrum sharing between a first wireless network and a coexisting wireless network in the same frequency bands. The spectrum sharing problem is modeled as a fairness constrained mixed integer nonlinear optimization problem, by jointly determining dynamic channel selection, carrier aggregation and fractional spectrum access for the first wireless networks, while guaranteeing fair spectrum access for the coexisting wireless network based on a cross-technology fairness criterion. An algorithm based on a combination of branch and bound and successive convex relation techniques is provided to optimally solve the problem, i.e., maximize the utility of the first wireless network with guaranteed optimality precision that can be set arbitrarily at the expense of computational complexity. The coexistence scheme requires no signaling exchange between the first wireless network and the coexisting wireless network, and does not require any changes to the communication protocol stack of the coexisting wireless network.
