A radiation curable secondary coating composition for optical fiber is described and claimed. This radiation curable secondary coating composition includes component (A) which is a urethane (meth)acrylate and component (B) which is a (meth)acrylate compound with two or more ethylenically unsaturated groups and one or more bisphenol structures; wherein the content of component (B) in the composition is 60-300 mass parts per 100 mass parts of component (A). The liquid secondary coating has a viscosity at 25&#xb0; C. of from about 0.1 Pa&#xb7;s to about 15 Pa&#xb7;s. Films obtained by curing the liquid radiation curable secondary coating composition of the present invention have a Young's modulus of from about 600 MPa to about 500 MPa and the breaking elongation of the cured film is from about to 5% to about 50%.

A curable resin composition comprising an antioxidant, a UV absorber, and a (meth)acrylate oligomer comprising polyether units. Cured products made from the liquid curable resin composition of the present invention have excellent light stability. The resin composition is suitable as a coating material for optical fibers.

The present invention relates to a multilayer coating in which a plurality of photocurable resin cured films are layered on a substrate, wherein at least two adjacent layers comprise the same hindered phenol-type antioxidant. The multilayer coating can be applied onto a substrate, such as glass fibers, vinyl chloride sheets, polycarbonate sheets, glass plates, polyethylene films, wood, acrylic sheets, metal plates, and the like.

A liquid curable resin composition comprising: (1) 30&#x2013;80 wt. % of a urethane (meth)acrylate produced by reacting (A) a polyol compound, (B) a polyisocyanate compound, and (C) a (meth)acrylate compound containing a hydroxyl group, (2) 0.01&#x2013;10 wt % of 2-methly-1-[4-(methylthio)phenyl]-2-morpholino-propan-1-one, and (3) 10&#x2013;70 wt. % of a polymerizable diluent comprising a polymerizable monofunctional vinyl monomer which is copolymerizable with the component (1), wherein a two-layer film, which is obtained by applying the composition to a cured film of a UV-curable resin comprising the compound shown by the above formula (1) and curing the composition, has a T-peel strength of about 1.8 g/cm or less.

Two-layer film formed of radiation cured resin compositions and methods of making the same

The present invention provides a curable composition, comprising: a (meth)acrylate urethane compound derived from a polypropylene glycol or a propyleneoxide ethyleneoxide copolymer glycol having a molecular weight between 1,000 and 13,000 and an amount of unsaturation less than 0.01 meq/g. The liquid curable resin composition of the present invention has improved liquid stability and can produce cured products having superior mechanical characteristics by polymerization. The composition further comprises preferably a primary or secondary amine. The liquid curable resin composition can be used as a coating material for optical fibers, adhesives, and the like. The composition is particularly suitable as a coating material for optical fibers for which long-term stability is required.

Provided is a radiation curable resin composition suitable for use as a primary coating material for optical fibers, which can form a cured coating with a low modulus of elasticity exhibiting a high breaking strength, and small light transmission loss; the coating composition comprises (A) a polymer containing polymerizable unsaturated groups in an average amount of 1.2 per molecule, a urethane bond in a molecular chain, and having a number average molecular weight from 3,000 to 30,000, (B) a poly-functional monomer having two or more polymerizable unsaturated groups, (C) a monomer having one polymerizable unsaturated group, and (D) a radiation active initiator. The secant modulus of the coating is less than 0.15 kg/mm , the tensile strength is more than 0.15 kg/mm .

The composition produces cured products which exhibit superior heat resistance, excellent mechanical strength, and superb adhesive characteristics, and is suitable for use as a photo-curable adhesive, a photo-curable sealing material, a resin for optical three-dimensional molding, and a coating material for optical fibers, and optical fiber ribbon matrix.

The composition contains a first polydimethylsiloxane compound which contains (i) at least two urethane bonds, (ii) an unreactive organic group attached to at least one end of the first polydimethyl-siloxane, and (iii) a (meth)acrylol group attached to at least one end of the first polydimethylsiloxane, and a second polydimethylsiloxane compound which contains (i) at least two urethane bonds and (ii) an unreactive organic group attached to at least one end of the second polydimethylsiloxane, and optionally a third polysiloxane compound which does not contain urethane bonds.
