An optical lens includes: (i) a temporary coating for protection against degradation at least partially covering a surface of the lens, the temporary protective coating including an outermost layer mechanically degradable through friction and/or contact, and (ii) a removable film having a first side and a second side, which adheres to the outermost layer of the temporary protective coating through its first side, the first side of the removable film including at least one surface portion, which, when applied to the outermost layer of the temporary protective coating, includes at least one adherent zone and at least one non-adherent zone distributed across the surface portion.

A process for applying a film structure onto a lens blank is improved by implementing a wedge piece when the film structure is pressed against the lens blank using a resilient cushion. The wedge piece forces the film structure to conform more tightly to the lens blank within a depression track existing on said lens blank. Then, the lens blank assembled with the film structure has a final optically useful area which is increased.

A process is described for manufacturing an ophthalmic lens containing a Fresnel microstructured surface inside the lens. The Fresnel lens is injection molded with a mold insert having a heat conductivity lower than the thermoplastic material used to form the Fresnel lens. A second thermoplastic material is overmolded to the Fresnel lens to cover and protect the microstructured surface. The mold insert is made from nickel or a thermoplastic material. The resulting lens includes two layers having different refractive indices. The Fresnel lens may be made from polycarbonate while the overmold may be made from a poly(methyl methacrylate) or a thermoplastic polyurethane.

Production of organic porous masses may involve introducing a matrix material into a mold cavity, the matrix material comprising a plurality of binder particles, a plurality of organic particles, and a microwave enhancement additive; heating at least a portion of the matrix material so as to bind the matrix material at a plurality of contact points, thereby forming an organic porous mass length, wherein heating involves irradiating with microwave radiation the at least a portion of the matrix material; and cutting the organic porous mass length radially thereby yielding an organic porous mass.
