A vehicle including a power receiving pad for wirelessly receiving power, a plurality of magnetic sensors for measuring a magnetic field of a power transmitting pad and obtaining magnetic field data, one or more processors, and one or more memory modules are provided. The one or more memory modules include a computer-readable medium storing computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to receive the magnetic field data from the plurality of magnetic sensors, and estimate a lateral misalignment of the power receiving pad with respect to a magnetic axis of the power transmitting pad. The magnetic sensors are arranged to detect at least an X-component and a Y-component of a magnetic field produced by a power transmitting pad.

Systems and methods for wireless vehicle power transfer and misalignment estimation

For misalignment measurement, a method receives a plurality of position detection signals from a corresponding plurality of detection coils. The plurality of position detection signals are generated from mutual inductance between the plurality of detection coils and an energized field-generating detection coil. The method further generates detection information from the position detection signals. In addition the method calculates a lateral misalignment along a lateral Y axis from the detection information. The lateral misalignment includes a lateral misalignment distance and a lateral misalignment direction. The method calculates a vehicle speed along a longitudinal X axis from the detection information. In addition, the method energizes a transmitter power coil and controls the power transfer based on the vehicle speed and lateral misalignment.

Vehicle misalignment measurement and compensation in dynamic wireless charging applications

A magnetizable concrete wireless power transfer pad can include a base, an inductive coil and a pillar. The base can comprise a magnetizable base concrete including concrete and first magnetizable particles, the first magnetizable particles having a magnetic permeability and a magnetic saturation. The inductive coil can be positioned directly adjacent and centered over the base, the inductive coil forming an inductive coil gap at its center inner perimeter between a conductive wire that form the inductive coil, the inductive coil having an outer perimeter, a lateral width, and a longitudinal length. The pillar can extend up from the base through the inductive coil gap, the pillar comprising a magnetizable pillar concrete including concrete and second magnetizable particles, the second magnetizable particles having a magnetic permeability and a magnetic saturation such that the base and the pillar collectively shape an external magnetic field produced by the inductive coil to increase the mutual coupling with a receiver pad, that way increasing the power transfer capabilities of the system.
