An interspinous spacer includes an actuator screw having a proximal end and a shaped cavity in the proximal end, where the shaped cavity is configured for receiving a bit of a driver tool having a complementary shape for rotating the actuator screw using the driver tool; a wedge coupled to the actuator screw, wherein, as the actuator screw is rotated using the driver tool, the actuator screw and the wedge move longitudinally relative to the body; and a first arm and a second arm, wherein the first and second arms are rotatably coupled to the distal portion of the body and configured for rotating in response to longitudinal movement of the wedge. The interspinous spacer may include locking inserts or a locking ring to resist rotation of the actuator screw absent the driver tool.

An interspinous spacer includes a body having a channel and at least one slot; an arm actuator defining a threaded channel; an actuator screw including a shaft with a threaded distal portion partially disposed in the channel of the body and the threaded channel of the arm actuator; a first pin arranged to move along the slot of the body; a second pin; and first and second arms, each having a coupling extension that defines a pin opening and a curved track. The first and second arms are coupled to the body by the second pin extending through the curved tracks and further coupled to the body and the actuator arm by the first pin extending through the pin openings. The first and second arms rotate among different deployment positions according to the curved track in response to longitudinal movement of the actuator arm as the actuator screw is rotated.

The power assembly includes a power source; a conduit assembly extending from the power source to the electronics housing; and one or more power conductors extending along the conduit assembly and electrically coupling the power source to the electronic subassembly. The control module further includes one or more connector assemblies. Each of the one or more connector assemblies includes a connector lumen configured to receive a lead; connector contacts arranged along the connector lumen and in electrical communication with the electronic subassembly; and connector conductors electrically coupled to the connector contacts.

Systems and methods for making and using a low-profile control module for an electrical stimulation system

A burr hole plug includes a base having a flange configured to rest on the skull of a patient and a sidewall configured to extend into a burr hole. The burr hole plug also includes a flexible cover configured to be disposed entirely over, and coupled to, the base. The flexible cover includes a skirt to fit around an outer perimeter of the base and a rim that fits inside the sidewall of the base. Between the skirt and the rim is an inset region having a shape corresponding to a shape of the flange of the base. Alternatively or additionally, the burr hole plug may include two lead retention members, each of the lead retention members including a lead engagement surface to engage and hold a lead; and a locking member for locking the two lead retention members in the base.

An electrical stimulation lead latching kit includes a connector having a housing that defines a lead lumen and a latching lumen that at least partially intersects the lead lumen; and a latching device including a latching pin, a handle, and an attaching element that attaches the latching pin to the handle. The latching pin has a longitudinal surface and is configured for insertion into the latching lumen, and the attaching element is configured to enable the latching pin to detach from the handle when the latching pin is in the latching lumen. When the latching pin is positioned in the latching lumen and a portion of an electrical stimulation lead or lead extension is positioned in the lead lumen, the longitudinal surface of the latching pin engages the electrical stimulation lead or lead extension to latch the electrical stimulation lead or lead extension to the connector.

An implantable medical device (IMD) includes a housing that is formed of a biocompatible material such as silicone. The housing includes integral contact receptacles that house individual contacts, which contacts are electrically connected to electrical circuitry within a main interior cavity of the housing. The integral contact receptacles receive electrode leads, and the contacts are aligned with electrode terminals on the proximal end of the electrode leads, which establishes an electrical connection between the electrical circuitry and electrodes at the distal end of the leads. The housing is filled with a silicone gel such as a tacky diphenyl silicone gel. The silicone gel provides electrical, mechanical, and thermal insulation, and prevents the ingress of bodily fluids when the IMD is implanted.

A connector for an implantable electrical medical device includes a connector lumen defined in an elongated connector housing and adapted for receiving a portion of a lead. Connector-contact assemblies are disposed in the connector lumen and adapted to couple to terminals of the lead when the lead is received by the connector lumen. Each of the connector-contact assemblies includes a contact body. An inner surface of the contact body defines an open center portion. A first base is disposed along a first end of the contact body, and a second base is disposed along an opposing second end of the contact body and is coupled to the first base. Biasing members are attached to the first base and extend towards the second base. The biasing members are not attached to the second base. When the lead is received by the connector lumen the biasing members physically contact the received lead.

Systems and methods for making and using improved connector contacts for electrical stimulation systems

A connector for an implantable electrical medical device includes a connector lumen defined in an elongated connector housing and adapted for receiving a portion of a lead. Connector-contact assemblies are disposed in the connector lumen. Each of the connector-contact assemblies includes a contact housing. Multiple connector contacts are arranged along perimeters of inner surfaces of the contact housings such that the connector contacts are not in electrical contact with one another. Each of the connector contacts includes a biasing structure that physically contacts terminals disposed along the lead when the lead is received by the connector lumen. For each connector contact of a particular connector-contact assembly, the biasing structure extends around no more than 70% of the perimeter of the inner surface of the contact housing and is circumferentially-offset from the biasing structures of the remaining connector contacts of the connector-contact assembly.

A segmented-contact set of a lead includes segmented contacts extending around less than an entire circumference of the lead and not in electrical contact with one another. The segmented-contact set includes first and second segmented contacts that each include a stimulation portion and a retention member. The stimulation portion has a stimulation surface exposed along an outer surface of the lead. The retention member is coupled to the stimulation portion. The stimulation portion and the retention member collectively form a loop of material that extends around a center transverse axis of the lead beneath the outer surface. A first insulating member is disposed between the stimulation portion of the first segmented contact and the retention member of the second segmented contact. A second insulating member is disposed between the stimulation portion of the second segmented contact and the retention member of the first segmented contact.

Systems and methods for making and using improved contact arrays for electrical stimulation systems

A method of forming a control module for an electrical stimulation system, the control module including an electronic subassembly disposed in an inner space of a casing and a feedthrough housing disposed along a portion of the casing, includes: forming an RF-diverting assembly having capacitive elements electrically-coupled to a feedthrough ground; electrically-coupling the capacitive elements to conductive pathways extending along a non-conductive substrate; electrically-coupling the conductive pathways to feedthrough pins extending through the feedthrough housing from a location external to the casing to a location within the inner space of the casing; electrically-coupling the conductive pathways to the electronic subassembly such that the conductive pathways electrically-couple the feedthrough pins to the electronic subassembly; electrically-coupling the feedthrough ground to an electrically-conductive portion of the feedthrough housing; and electrically-coupling the electrically-conductive portion of the feedthrough housing to an electrically-conductive portion of an outer surface of the casing.

A nasal valve retention stent assembly is positionable within a person's nasal cavity to enlarge the nasal cavity and promote easier breathing through the person's nose. The assembly includes a frame having a pair of ends and a plurality of rib elements extending between and being attached to each of the ends. The rib elements are arched between the ends to form a cage like structure having a hollow interior. The rib elements are spaced from each other such that air freely flows through the frame. The frame is positionable within an inner nasal valve of the nose.

Systems for locating an optimal site within a brain of a patient for deep brain stimulation include a main cannula having an internal lumen, a guiding cannula having a bent distal end portion configured to pass through the lumen of the main cannula and guide a microelectrode into the brain, a depth adjustment mechanism configured to adjust an insertion depth of the guiding cannula, and a longitudinal angle adjustment device configured to adjust a longitudinal angle of the guiding cannula. The depth adjustment mechanism and longitudinal angle adjustment device adjust a position of the guiding cannula such that the microelectrode locates the optimal site for the deep brain stimulation.

An implantable control module for an electrical stimulation system includes an electronic subassembly disposed in a casing. A sealed feedthrough housing is disposed along a portion of the casing. An electrically-conductive portion of the feedthrough housing is electrically coupled to an electrically-conductive portion of the casing. Feedthrough pins extend through the feedthrough housing and couple to the electronic subassembly via conductive pathways disposed in the casing. At least a portion of the conductive pathways extend along a non-conductive substrate. An RF-diverting assembly is disposed in the casing. The RF-diverting assembly includes a feedthrough ground electrically coupled to the electrically-conductive portion of the feedthrough housing. The RF-diverting assembly also includes a plurality of capacitive elements each coupling a different one of the plurality of conductive pathways to the feedthrough ground.
