Disclosed herein is an endoscopic extraction device which retains its operative usefulness for longer periods of time, and therefore need to be replaced less frequently. This extended instrument life is accomplished through the use of a composite wire construction, which includes, an inner monofilament wire of nitinol material surrounded by six stranded stainless steel wires. A wire construction in which a nitinol wire is surrounded by five stranded stainless steel wires is also disclosed. After constructing a wire basket in the normal manner using this material, heat is applied to the formed basket in its pre-formed shape to set the memory characteristics of the inner nitinol core.

The disclosure is of a safety lighter including the usual lighter mechanism having a finger-operated activating lever which is coupled to a vertical rod which extends into the body of the lighter or a sleeve which encloses the lighter. The lower end of the vertical rod is coupled to apparatus which is operated by the user to permit the lighter to be operated once and then disabled.

Safety lighter

A lighter comprises a body containing lighter fuel and a vertically slidable fuel tube by means of which fuel can be brought from within the body to the vicinity of the sparking wheel of the lighter. The lighter includes a pivotable lever which raises and lowers the fuel tube and a two-position locking means which, in one position, permits the fuel tube to be raised and permits firing of the lighter and in a second position, prevents the fuel tube from being raised and prevents firing of the lighter.
