A method of performing an oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) reaction to produce Ccompounds using a low temperature gas mixture feed is provided. The method includes introducing a gas mixture feed containing methane, oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide at a temperature of less than or equal to 300° C. to an inlet of an OCM reactor, which contains a combustion catalyst and an OCM catalyst. At least a portion of the gas mixture feed is combusted using the combustion catalyst to generate a heated gas mixture having a temperature of at least 450° C. The heated gas mixture contacts the OCM catalyst to initiate an OCM reaction and produce an OCM effluent that includes Ccompounds. A system for performing an OCM reaction using a low temperature feedstock gas mixture is also provided.

Flexible production of gasoline and jet fuel in alkylation reactor

Apparatus and processes herein provide for converting hydrocarbon feeds to light olefins and other hydrocarbons. The processes and apparatus include a conventional riser reactor in combination with a mixed flow (e.g., including both counter-current and co-current catalyst flows) fluidized bed reactor designed for maximizing light olefins production. The effluents from the riser reactor and mixed flow reactor are processed in a catalyst disengagement vessel, and the catalysts used in each reactor may be regenerated in a common catalyst regeneration vessel. Further, integration of the two-reactor scheme with a catalyst cooler provides a refinery the flexibility of switching the operation between the two-reactor flow scheme, a catalyst cooler only flow scheme, or using both simultaneously.

Fluid catalytic cracking processes and apparatus

A cascade reactor scheme with acid and hydrocarbon flowing in reverse directions. The systems and processes for alkylation of olefins herein may include providing a first olefin to a first alkylation zone, and a second olefin to a second alkylation zone. Isoparaffin may be provided to the first alkylation zone. The isoparaffin and first olefin may be contacted with a partially spent sulfuric acid in the first alkylation zone to form a spent acid phase and a first hydrocarbon phase including alkylate and unreacted isoparaffin. The first hydrocarbon phase and second olefin may be contacted with a sulfuric acid feed in the second alkylation zone to form a second hydrocarbon phase, also including alkylate and unreacted isoparaffin, and the partially spent sulfuric acid that is fed to the first alkylation zone. Further, the second hydrocarbon phase may be separated, recovering an isoparaffin fraction and an alkylate product fraction.

A thermal management system includes a heat rejection device configured to fluidly couple to a refrigeration system, a fan configured to provide an entering airflow across the heat rejection device to cool a flow of water within the heat rejection device, and a controller configured to control a speed of the fan based on at least two of (i) a relative humidity of the entering airflow, (ii) a percentage of capacity one or more components of the refrigeration system are operating at, (iii) a ratio of water to energy costs, and (iv) a ratio of a design power of a compressor of the refrigeration system to a design power of the fan to minimize a total utility operation cost of the thermal management system including (i) energy costs to operate the fan and the refrigeration system and (ii) water costs of the flow of water.

Systems and methods for evaporative heat rejection equipment fan speed control

The evaporative liquid is collected in a sump and then pumped upwardly to be distributed again across the indirect heat exchange section. An improved heat exchange apparatus is provided with an indirect evaporative heat exchange section including a series of serpentine tubes with run sections and return bend sections of both normal and increased height. A direct heat exchange section may be provided in the vertical spacing between run sections formed by the increased height return bends.

The evaporative liquid is collected in a sump and then pumped upwardly to be distributed again across the indirect heat exchange section. An improved heat exchange apparatus is provided with two indirect evaporative heat exchange sections separated by a vertical distance. A direct evaporative heat exchange section may be provided in the vertical spacing between the two indirect evaporative heat exchange sections.

An evaporative liquid is downwardly distributed onto the indirect section to indirectly exchange sensible heat with a hot fluid stream flowing within a series of enclosed circuits which comprise the indirect evaporative heat exchange section. A direct heat exchange section may be provided in the increased vertical spacing between tube runs.

The indirect plate style heat exchanger may be combined with one or more direct evaporative heat exchange sections in multiple arrangements.
