A device includes a drill bit body defining an axis of rotation, a plurality of drill blades on the drill bit body, and a shaped cutter secured to at least one of the plurality of drill blades. The shaped cutter including an engagement surface having an exposed partially flattened boundary, wherein a contact point of the engagement surface during drilling is off-centered with respect to a center of the exposed partially flattened boundary.

Shaped cutter arrangements

A hybrid drill bit includes a bit body having a plurality of fixed cutters disposed thereon and at least one rolling-cutter pocket. The hybrid drill bit further includes a rolling cutter rotatably positioned within the rolling-cutter pocket on the bit body. The rolling cutter includes a roller body with an axial bore and a plurality of teeth arranged around the roller body to engage a subterranean formation. Additionally, the hybrid drill bit includes a rolling cutter retention mechanism including a pin received within the axial bore of the rolling cutter, the pin engaging the bit body to rotatably couple the rolling cutter within the rolling-cutter pocket in the bit body.

Hybrid drill bit

In accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure, a drill bit for drilling a wellbore in a subterranean formation comprises a plurality of cutters disposed at a contact face of the drill bit. Each of the cutters has a cutting face arranged to cut into the formation when the drill bit is rotated about an axis of rotation passing through the contact face during drilling of the wellbore. At least one of the cutters located inside a gauge portion of the drill bit is machine to form a substantially flat surface that intersects with the cutting face of the cutting and defines a cutting edge of the cutting face of the cutter.
